Amazing underground house in a hill (24 Photos)

This underground concrete home is the brainchild of SeArch and Christian Müller Architects. Located in Vals, Switzerland there are a myriad of famous thermal baths with amazing views nearby so in order to build close to the baths, the architects buried the house into the hill. The house has an oblique opening to allow the maximum amount of light to enter the home. In the designer’s own words,
“The introduction of a central patio into the steep incline creates a large façade with considerable potential for window openings. The viewing angle from the building is slightly inclined, giving an even more dramatic view of the strikingly beautiful mountains on the opposite side of the narrow valley.”

is that corrugated cardboard as vaulting support? Not a *totally* bad idea since it’s impossible to crush endways. I’m all about being post-modern, but isn’t the gray county-jail style interior doing away with alot of the ‘natural light’ they designed the house for? those rock-slab steps are pretty neat, though.

roof was a tad low for but overall I’m glad they tried to do something different then all their neighbors’ houses. Now all they need is a moat and some death rays and they have a total bond villain hideout.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I think HHNF is actually Xclusive02 (or whatever the hell his name was). Oddly similar how they both feel the need to make pointless comments about every post and seem to be on this site. I also have noticed that Xclusive02 is now absent and we have HHNF around all the time. Maybe Xclusive02 figured out that people wouldn’t be a mean to a pretty girl? I wonder. HHNF comments?

I’m HHNF on every site I’m on, love. failblog, Ruminations has 8 pages on me, and every other site I visit. I had a myspeace and facebook, but the local ‘hey i know you’ got quite creepy, and I had my pwn blog for quite awhile, haven’t posted in ages. I have the same avatar for both email addresses, so it would be faily difficult to impersonate someone. And as I’ve said, if I were to impersonate someone, it would be someone hotter and with better pics, ha! i can’t see a reason to be anyone else, and the only people who lie about who they are are ashamed of the truth. I’m on here constantly becaise it’s one of very few sites that aren’t blocked at work. And it=the win.

The house is pretty interesting. Nothing that I would ever live in, but something to look at. The only thing that killed it was the surrounding homes. At first, I just assumed they had a lot of property and there weren’t homes around it. Also, I’m sure the architects had added proper draining when they designed the house……unless they missed that day of architect school.

I got a friend with a house that's half underground. Never had any problems with water seepage, and it's thermally stable. He can keep the place at 65 degrees F and his heating/cooling costs are about a quarter of mine.
