Man, try and paint something like that on an aircraft today and you’d have your ass in a sling pronto. Those were the days, when men could behave like men and folks in the military were allowed to be bad asses.
In actuality, the U.S. Army Air Corp broke away to be it's own service in 1947. My roommates dad joined the USAF in 1949 & it had already been around a few years at that point.

History lesson. I the 1940′s there no Air Force, It was called the Army Air Corp. In 1950 the AAC became the Air Force. Love the nose art.
