Kopi Luwak or civet coffee, is coffee made from the beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet and other related civets, then passed through its digestive tract. A civet eats the berries for their fleshy pulp. In its stomach, proteolytic enzymes seep into the beans, making shorter peptides and more free amino acids. Passing through a civet’s intestines the beans are then defecated, having kept their shape. After gathering, thorough washing, sun drying, light roasting and brewing, these beans yield an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness, widely noted as the most expensive coffee in the world. Very good coffee indeed, also the perfect souvenir to bring back home from SE-Asia. Just don't tell "the secret" of how it's made until after a week or two. ;-)

way worse things happen to food before it gets to your mouth. At least these beans awe washed/roasted/brewed. Way cleaner than most things really.

Figures it would be in Asia; they probably think it will give you "long life" or "better sexual performance".

Are those animals like the squirrels at Wonka's factory?

It don't bother me, I drink my coffee everyday and will continue to drink it. Espresso and cappuccinos are my favorite, not that starbuck or mickey-Dees crap, I shipped my machine all the way from Italy cause they taste so good.
