By using a very special lens, Serena Malyon has given Van Gogh's most brilliant works the illusion of being a miniature model. Despite my rugged good looks and 7th grade education, I'm a huge fan of Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist techniques. A tip of the hat to Serena. Something tells me she's going places.

There's nothing special about tilt-shift photography, it's just a type of lens. You can simulate it in any photo editing tool by picking a focus point on the photo and increase the blur as you get away from the focal point. tilt-shift video is a cool thing to watch.
But in all seriousness – how sad is it that you guys spooge over someone taking a picture of a famous painting? Get off your pasty-whites and go see the real thing.
Nerds.
Um. To settle this little moronic debate once and for all… There are several tools that Photoshop has that can do this, yes. There is also a special camera lens that can create this effect as well. Wouldn't be that hard, photographing prints of his work. Regardless, there's no way to confirm which the artist did, and since her work is obviously quite good, I would like to suggest that all those critics keep their comments related to the end result. Otherwise, you just come off sounding… well… childish.
Out of honest-to-goodness curiosity that resulted after reading "a very special lens, I did a quick Google Shopping on the term…*HOLY CRAP* these lenses are fracking expensive! The lowest price I found was $1,199, and the prices went up rather quickly from there!

My first impression was WOW! But then I realized: Isnt this a bit like rap? Taking someone else's actual ART, then putting a fat beat behind it (or adding effects) then calling it your own? Hmmm…Nah, I still like it.

Hard to improve on masterpieces.
Yes, regardless of how it was done, it looks rather good. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Don't like? OK. Like, OK. It is what it is and what she did. I was never a fan of Van Gogh but her effects are very interesting however she accomplished them.

Well done Serena Malyon you have ALMOST made Van Gogh's work look like SOMETHING by adding Depth of Field (Either by using a Tilt Shift lens or Shopping it to shreds, I don't really care.) – Something those flat headed impressionists perhaps forgot all together by focusing all their attention on feelings, ambiance, texture and bright colours.
tilt shift doesn't work on 2d
in other words… TILT SHIFT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY

VG would have drawn them like that in the first place if that's how he had intended.
Tilt shift could possibly do shots like #14, but most of them wouldn't be possible with tilt shift, unless she was cutting apart the paintings before shooting them.
Wow, this is amazing. The human mins can go such lengths in its creative journey!
BRILLIANT! GENIUS!
Brilliant work! Gives art appreciation a different angle.
A tilt-shift camera won't allow you to silhouette a sharp figure from the blurred background — which you'll see in #7 and #12.
By the way, there's a free version of "TiltShift Generator" at the App Store for iPhone / iPad. You can make your images look like miniatures in moments. Perhaps someone will take a series of Monets and make them look like 3D miniatures and we'll all think they're "brilliant artists" and "going places."
definitely a TiltShiftgen – an app on the iPhone. i've done this myself with some of my own work.

Someone surely misunderstood the student's own description. It could read something like: "she applied photoshop techniques to mimick the model effect photographers obtain by using tilt shift lenses in real life." These lenses have skewable depth of field characteristics that will can not be brought to play within two dimensional subjects, like paintings.
