747 had the shot…he took it (Video)

…and broke a major rule of engagement!! Buzzing the Golden Gate Bridge seems like a prudent idea.

Apparently this stunt was performed during a Blue Angels air show. Still, doesn’t that seem like a bad idea???

    doesnt seem like a buzz.

go under it, now thats entertainment!!

I had a distant relative that went under from what mom told me !

The last time a commercial jet flew that low in a populated area, we lost all our rights as American citizens.

    • bigcw

We lost our rights when they landed a plane in the Hudson River?

    • Brad Wesley

wow maybe your next post might actually make some sense

      • http://www.infosprite.com schwim

Doubtful, but who am I to crush your dreams?

  • spliggs

"Llow"? What is he, like 1000 feet up? You want to see low, look up TAP Airbus A310 low pass; THAT's low!!!

    • fataussie

Holy crap. That TAP Airbus is low!!

  • ROK

i was waiting for something cool to happen. still waiting…

  • Robb

That bird at 1:03 is flying fast as hell!

  • JJ1

If that's close enough to be considered buzzing the bridge, then I f'ed Jessica Alba in the other post.

  • Skedaddle

Check out the flying exhibitions at Seafair here in Seattle…blows that away.

  • Jon

Im gonna have to call bullshit on that one. Perspective looks right but the bridge is further back in the background. besides I bet the FAA fine the living fuck out of United for that.

  • http://thechive.com/ mattythegooch

Should've just put'er down in Oakland and called it a day!!!!

One of the Boeing test pilots barrel rolled a 707 over lake Washington when the plane was first introduced back in the 50s

entertainment for Americans that can't spell America

    • BrutalDeluxe

      That's 'Merica to you, pal

  • northerner

He had a large margin with the bridge. As was suggested, if he'd flown UNDER it, that would have been madly bad, but he didn't. Just flew OVER it with plenty of margin. Cool but no baddy. I'm sure the FAA was pissed but he really didn't put anyone in danger. Most airports have those heavy jets landing far closer to people than that. Far closer.

  • Brad

Let me see that thing skim over the water of the bay then I'll be impressed.

  • edocol

  • Board

    thiis is a 747 low pass =)

  • gulliver22

    Lameville. Population us.

  • Gus

It's an air show. As mentioned above, the Blue Angels were performing and all the boats on the bay bare this out. No doubt all the usual FFA permits and exceptions were observed.

    • Gus

      crap… FAA

  • FartFace

Yeah, it's tough to tell the distance between the GG Bridge and the 747, but I'd guess the 747 was several hundred feet in front of it.. Close, but not as close as it appears.

  • FartFace

Yeah, that 747 is about to crash into the Golden Gate Bridge, just like that seagull at 1:03 is flying faster than the jet. These are what you call optical illusions.

  • Danny

I was in San Fransisco for fleet week when this was happening. I even took a few pictures of this myself, but in reality there were probably 20 other jets and planes that came a lot closer the the bridge than that. Its just an illusion.

  • Coldzilla

"Things on your video screen make appear closer than they are" 😉

  • radiodial

It's one of those things that just doesn't translate to a you tube video – you had to be there and hear and feel it and see it. if you were there in SF it was awesome.

  • Stubbs

The jet did what's known as a Dirty Pass, where the gear and flaps are all lowered to increase drag but still maintain lift. It's perfectly safe, but rare to see such a massive aircraft traveling so slow. The perspective of the video makes it look underwhelming, but it's incredible in person.
