Rats trained to locate landmines (7 Photos)

The Belgians are training African pouch rats to locate landmines. They have an incredible sense of smell and are easily motivated by being rewarded with food. To put the impact of this idea to numbers, it takes 2 soldiers a day to clear a 2,150 sq. foot area of mines. In contrast, 2 trained rats can accomplish this in 1.5 hours.
