He wasn't trying a trick shot, the oil on the lanes had dried up to the point that he had to loft the ball over the gutter to get to the fresh oil through the middle. It's very common in tournaments.

I think he just sucks at bowling and got lucky off of another lane and tried to play it off cool. Plain and simple.
