Actually, it is what remains of a collapsed volcano. Mt Mazama had a massive eruption, it fell in on itself and this is what is left. The little Island is called Wizard Island.
No, it's El Capitain Mountain in Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park. It's the largest single continuous piece if granite on the planet. The mountains on the right are called "the three brothers".
(They're named for the three sons of Chief Tioga who was the last Chief of the Miwok tribe as the indians were being run out.) The water we're standing in is the Merced River which is very cold and just thinking about it makes me want to pee as I'm typing this. So, off to the potty we go. By the way, if I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer.
