What ever happened to the Miracle on the Hudson airplane? (15 photos)

As most of you know after the airplane was extracted from the Hudson, it was auctioned off in pieces...but how did they get this sucker out of the water? Photographer Stephen Mallon documented the whole process. Check out his website HERE for more amazing photo-journalism.

    • Mondooh

      Warm water suit FTW!!!

  • Wavien

Why would someone want to buy an airplane that is not functioning anymore?

    • lal

ur right! we should just take the spirit of st louis and just burn it since it doesnt fly anymore…idiot

      • Wavien

The spirit of st louis? What the hell is that? Another superhero like Jesus?

      • DistractedIndividual

I though that was Charles Lindbergh's plane….If you have to ask who he is, you do not deserve the answer.

        • dub

          Green Party 1988!

    • guest

Salvage parts can and will be used in planes that are still in service…doesn't that make you feel safe?

      • Wavien

If they work, they work. I'm safe enough thankyou

        • guest

by that rational, a second hand condom will be "safe enough", but you probably wouldn't want to use it, just in case.

          • Wavien

Are you aerophobic, or just completely retarded? It's nothing near the same.

            • guest

              neither…do you suffer from C.R.I.S.?

              • dub

                Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist?

Oh god I hope that's not contagious!

                • guest

cranial rectal inversion syndrome…I too hope it's not contagious

                  • JAFitC

                    No, but it is genetic.

                    • guest

phew! Here I thought I had some else wrong with me…I don't know what it would be called, but I'm sure it's hard to pronounce.

    • Maynard B.

Maybe they'll put it in the Smithsonian along with all the X-planes.

    • Obvious Troll

This is some epic trolling. I am jealous.

  • lolcat

what boggles the mind is how intact that plane is after the fact, simply amazing #2

    • Maynard B.

Credit to the flight crew's skill. Thats why everyone walked away.

    • Maynard B.

Credit to the flight crew's skill. That is why everyone walked (or swam (brrr)) away.

    • mee

Oh course its intact, it landed not crash landed.

      • dub

        Splash landed?

      • Ned

Commercial planes dont "land" on a river.

  • Urban

#10 Hmm. Something tells me they are going to refurbish this one and put it back in the air.

  • SumCat

    Another Charlie Widmore hoax.

  • nemesis

#13 I love seeing pictures of people who look uncomfortable in their own skin. I'm talking to you, second-guy-from-the-left.

  • TJC

Actually, the auction was pulled and the plane was donated (by Chartis, the insurance company) to the Carolinas Aviation Museum. The new exhibit is slated to open in 2012 on the 3rd anniversary of the ditching.

  • saltygary

Was on a business trip 5 miles away. It was -20 that day. Just a complete miracle.

    • Johnny Two Toes

According to Wunderground.com it was a low of 15 degrees and a high of 22 degrees.

      • Welde

15 °F are the same -10 °C. He was 5 miles away. If it was windy at his location I think it could have felt like 20 below.

  • Jedi

Looks like man's work honey, please return to the kitchen

  • foster

you idiot, the Germans dropped the A bombs on Japan!

    • sdfadfs

I hope for the sake of the world that both u retards are lolling..

    • Wavien

Germans didn't drop any A bombs at any time ever. The USA bombed Japan.. You're the idiot here….

      • iAm1-NAMI

You are right the Germans used cruise missiles. The USA preferred a more polite, personal delivery out of respect of Japanese culture. The Nazi's were so rude!

  • Wavien

History test? I think you're the one that needs luck on it. It was the Japanese who attacked Pearl Harbor, and not even from the air, but from sea.

    • dub

Here's a good general rule to follow:

Always assume people are being sarcastic when posting comments. It's hard to convey sarcasm in text, and then you look stupid.

      • SenorRock

someone needs to invent a sarcasm font.

        • Trent

It's widely known that putting + signs before and after your text means sarcasm.

          + your so smart +

          • Guest

I guess they missed that memo…….i did too, for someone to know that, must be someone that spends wayyyyyy to much time on the comp
