Think about it. Would you want your stuff auctioned off at no fault of your own? If the airport lost my luggage, they better not auction it off. They better burn it! I could have personal info in there like prescriptions, naked photos of myself and spouse or other personal stuff.

Dummy, you could have moved the luggage cart closer to the truck or the truck to the cart. People's unclaimed treasures are heavy.

I used to work at a recycling plant here in the US and we used to dispose of old luggage all the time.

Has it occured to anyone yet that this is probably for some kind of TV show? It's probably a sight gag for "New Zealand's Funniest Videos" or something like that. Really, why would they drive a garbage right out there onto the tarmac and make such a show of throwing them away in front of everyone?

Unclaimed luggage is tosseed after 30 days….they can't keep it forever

These are unwanted bags (full of newspapers, rags, old books and old clothes) which were donated to Christchurch Airport for a baggage handling trial before their new terminal opened. The bags were so old they couldn’t be given to charities. Check your facts first!

All I think about is that I really really really really hope that they tried to track down the owners, or gave the owners ample time to track them down if they forgot their bags (a couple days at least). Otherwise this is just utterly pathetic.

I'd like to roll on over to that dude's house with a garbage truck and just start chucking his shit into it. I don't think he'd like it too much.
