Hero construction worker saves drowning woman (10 Photos)

Patricia Neely and her husband Alan were scouting for the perfect place to watch a firework display in Des Moines, Iowa, when their boat got too close to a dam and washed over. Sadly, Alan's life jacket slipped off an he was swept away by the current. He didn't survive the ordeal.

Meanwhile, Patricia was caught in the churning waters beneath the dam. When a small rescue boat was unable to reach her because of the treacherous conditions, a nearby construction crew sprung to action. Jason Oglesbee, a construction worker with Cramer & Associates turned to his crane operator, Joe Lowe, and they knew what they had to do.

Jason fastened himself in a harness and Joe carefully lowered him over the dangerous water. Jason was able to hold Patricia up while Joe moved them into calmer waters where the rescue boat was able to grab Patricia and take her for medical attention.

After it was over, both men immediately returned back to work. Amazing work, Jason and Joe. Read the full story here.

Who cares if the story is two years old? Those are two men who saw something that needed to be done and did it instead of standing around waiting for someone else to do it. This country could use a few hundred thousand more people like them.

Thank you. No, I haven't been with him for 60 years, but I do know what love is and I've seen enough of people losing their loved ones to know that yes, life goes on… for some, and it just doesn't for some other people. We're all different, maybe it's hard for you to believe that that kind of love and pain exists, and not everyone is strong enough to live with it.

#9 #10 If these two men don't get a medal of honor each, or at least the civilian equivalent, i'm losing faith in mankind.

Upon reading this I have to say Vaughn owned all of you in his short paragraph above. People feel that it is their duty to rain hate down on others and I will never understand that mind set. You can't make diagnoses of a human being over a internet blog but that doesn't stop the world from trying. Bianka live your life and enjoy that love you share with your boyfriend. I know that if I ever lost mine (we have been together for * years ever since we were 14) I would be devastated and honestly would feel like my life would never be happy. Love is a wonderful thing and not everyone gets to experience true soul consuming love. Haters follow people everywhere it is just what they do. The chive is often full of self righteous shallow human beings.

    • 0Bianka0

Soul consuming… never heard that phrase before, I love it, it's so expressive :) (if that's a word)

    • nomnom

Yes… because some people don't define themselves and derive their self worth from a significant other, they MUST be self righteous and shallow.

What was that about raining down hate on others?

Seriously? You thumbed THIS down? Who does that? I guess from now on everything I'll say will be thumbed down. Real mature. Whatever guys, have fun wiritng rude passive agressive comments and fapping to the FLBP girls in your mum's basement.:) I'm gonna go get laid by the awesomest guy ever.

    • Lau

Haha I like the last part. I think I am gonna go find my boyfriend now.

    • quintus

I have no idea what you originally said, but as long as you were respectful with your comments you shouldn't worry about people thumbing you up or down. I just know that I personally wouldn't want anyone giving up on their life, whatever the reason. I understand writing how you would feel at the moment, but just remember posting it on the internet will lead to disastrous results as many fwill take it the wrong way. We all like to hear ourselves talk and think whatever we say is right. Including myself I guess, if I ever returned to check after my comments.

      Have fun getting laid.

      Thanks for the post, John.

    • E.V.L.

Once they get started, the pack of wild dogs just keep going :( Yeah, no matter what you type now will get thumbed down.

You're right, they are VERY immature!

    • Vaughn

We're not even in the same country, Bianka… ;)

  • FuckdaPolice

The police would never be able to do this, on account of officer safety…

  • Tee

  • HankVatican

    Obtuse. Is it deliberate?

  • HtMma

The Alameda fire department, city council, and police department all need to use this story as a model. Then they'd know better than to stand on the beach and watch a man drown in the bay.

  • bubblerider86

This guy….yea, he's what i'm gonna compare all future guys to…."What do you mean you've never risked your life and attached yourself to a crane to pull a random, drowning woman out of rapids??"….Chivalry and heroism are not dead! This guy definitely deserves a raise or something!!!!
