"irregardless" can be a word if we want it to be. I suggest Melvyn Bragg's brilliant and accessible "The adventure of English" for an interesting take on the fluidity of the English language.

Yep, or to quote what Stephen Fry (the host in this video clip) said on the matter, "usage is the arbiter final." As much as a new word or grammatical structure might irk you, if it catches on then there's no justifiable reason to call it wrong.

Alan Carr's reaction was more entertaining than the illusion itself. Still, seems like Fry is scraping the bottom of the barrel for crap to talk about if that old illusion is quite interesting. Next up on QI: Is it two faces or one vase? Duck or old woman?

Works with other things besides faces – there's a classic set of black-n-white photo's of eggs, that are actually egg-shaped depressions.

It is based on how our eyes interpret shadow and light, not faces.
