Just because you own a camera doesn't make you a photographer…

    • http://www.facebook.com/FightingCorsair Dave Gal

Yet people who own a copy of Photoshop think they can be Graphic Designers.

It's kinds like, "Hey, I own an oven. I'm a chef."

    • spears

The man studied as an artist for 20 years, has awards spanning 16 years and made all these photographs with film. Making these photographs look seamless is extremely technical in a darkroom. Especially when you are trying to make it look like people are flying. It would have been simple in photoshop, but you have no idea the amount of work that was put into these. He really is a genius. Unless you can explain to me his process in the darkroom.

Just because you can post a comment doesn't mean you should…

      • http://www.facebook.com/FightingCorsair Dave Gal

To be clear, I wasn't dumping on the photography or the photographer. I quite like the photos.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I've worked in a darkroom with photographs. It's a nightmare of complexity.

        • spears

I was just replying to Mr. Masterdebater and his ignorant statement. I've spent countless hours in the darkroom and I still have no idea how he made some of these.

        • Dave

boom!! in yo face foo' !!!

just because you look at a photograph, does not mean you understand what you see

Stuff White People Like # 47, Photography

Becoming a successful artist often takes years of training and study, something that white people are fully capable of doing. It also requires a degree of ability and talent, which is something that white people are capable of believing that they possess innately, even though that probably isn't true. Bu t that doesn't stop them in their need to seem creative. What they need is some sort of system whereby they do not need any actual talent but can still create something that is considered to be artistic.

      Photography!
For a photograph to be considered art, a white person need only take a blurry picture of a skyline, blow it up, then mount it to their wall. If they take the same photo with a vintage camera, specifically a Leica, than it is groundbreaking.
This need to create art by simply pushing a button has spawned one of the most popular iPhone applications in history: Hipstamatic. It gives white people all the effect of shooting something with a vintage camera without all the mess of developing film or actually having to own a vintage camera. Now a white person can take a picture of their friend looking out the window of a bus or train and it doesn't look pretentious. Well, it still looks pretentious but at least it looks vintage pretentious, which is often known in white circles as "the good kind".

In addition to this artistic photography, white people have also started to take pictures of their food before they eat it. Some white people do this as a a spiritual tribute to the food they are about to eat, but most white people do it so they can post it to Facebook or Twitter and prove to their friends that they ate from a cool food truck before it became too popular.

Another possible reason why white people over thirty take so many pictures of their food is that once white people cross the thirty-year mark, they replace their passionate knowledge of indie bands with an equally passionate and judgmental attitude towards restaurants. So instead of sharing photos of themselves at a Bon Iver concert, they much prefer to look at plates featuring foie gras.

Regardless of the reason behind the photography, white people will keep doing it till their dying breath. Some will try to get a small amount of Internet fame by taking a picture of themselves or their child every for a few years, while other will simply continue with food photography. It should be noted that the most advanced of these white photographers will often brag that their Creative Commons-licensed photographs have been featured on a site that ends in–"ist".

Do not bother asking if they were paid for their photos. The answer is always "No…not yet".

      • THIS IS MADNESS!!!

Your comment was far too long, sir.
