#19 Employers in the UK do this ALL THE F*CKING TIME!

    • DutchChiveFan

Bastards! Perhaps you can deliver your work on an entry level as well.

    • Biggus Diccus

It's even worse now with the economy in the shitter. It took me 8 months to get my first engineering job out of college back in 2004/2005. I can't imagine what kids are dealing with now. I have actually heard of people working for free just to get some experience.

      • Epk

I'm currently searching for engineering jobs (finishing my Masters in December). ALL jobs seem to have this requirement. Even if I was to go do an internship for experience first, many, if not most of the internship postings require prior internships as experience.

        • Patches

So they want a few years experience for an entry level position… so? You spoiled entitled retards who think that you can waltz into an upper management position with 2 years experience are the problem. Here's a tip: 2-5 years is still starting out and SHOULD be considered entry level!
I mean, how dare a company want to hire experienced people? The nerve!

          • Jim

5 years is entry level? You must be a slow learner.

Sounds to me like they want someone with experience, but would like to pay them entry level wages.

    • thomf

I love/hate the ones that say: Must have 5+ years experience with a software that has only been out for 1-2 years.

    • Linda

Yeah a "work-study" you do at university IN THE SAME FIELD apparently do not count as "real work experience" even though that what some of the programs were made for… I just want a freaking job!
In Oklahoma I feel your pain my UK brethren.

Do NOT reply to spammers, your reply is keeping them visible after an admin deletes it.
Just hit 'report', say why (spammer), click 'submit this'.

      • ZachBob

        • http://thechive.com/ Paula_

They're too cool for that. Really. They hardly ever delete anything unless seriously racist, spam etc..

#19 Apply anyway. I got my first in-field position after applying to a job that required 5+ years of experience, at least according to the blurb. Just highlight the strength of your education on your resume and impress in the interview.

    • Fleeb

Not sure why you got downrated. I remember those days just out of college, and thought the exp requirement excluded me from…every single entry level job out there. But, you're right, APPLY anyway.

They just put that exp req on there because it is what they would "like" : a "career" Entry-level employee. Someone to fill the position forever. Who else with 2-5yrs exp would still qualify for an Entry-level job?

So, college grads, apply anyway. They'll take you over the underachiever in most cases, even if they know you are just passing through.

  • Jason

I'm just out of college and am job searching right now for an entry level position. I see #19 all the time and it pisses me off so freaking much!

  • andy

saw this on reddit yesterday wtf chive?

    • Da_Boz

    About #19
    1. Nathan Hart is right
    2. They do it because they can, wouldn't you? I would prefer skilled workers over unskilled. Calling it entry level just manages the expectations on what the job entitles and the compensation.

    • jackson

right…so they can pay skilled workers peanuts and increase their profits…….fuck them and yourself

  • shrimpdub

#19 they all do that and it's very annoying

#19 Is the reason recruiting forms exist, if HR actually pulled their head out of their ass and knew how to fill a job we wouldn't have these issues. I work for a staffing firm and we have multi-billion corporations who use us even though they have a staffing group they pay a fortune for, because they can't staff worth a shit…

  • Ukulelemike

    #12 Suddenly…BEES!

  • Ukulelemike

#16 Well, I think I found the problem with your cat…

  • thechevron

The first circle is so they get someone with 2-5 years experience.
The second circle is so they can pay you fuck all for doing it.

    • Biggus Diccus

This is why corporations are seeing record profits.

      • truth

"Entry level" just means their willing to enter your ASS whether you have 1 or 5 years experience

        • truth

    • Patches

This is why the current generation is becoming known as the "entitlement generation". You get 2 years experience and think you automatically deserve a giant paycheque and a corner office and a company car. Nobody thinks they have to pay their dues and work their way up… just walk in with your pretty piece of paper and demand a huge salary.

      • ebits21

        Key word here: Entry-level.

        Thanks for playing.

  • Seldi84
