#30 released before #29. I also don't think that things like the power glove and power pad really count as "evolutions" seeing as they failed. Miserably.

If we’re being picky…you left out the PS1 Dual Shock. Actually, I think you may have overlooked feedback (vibrating) controllers completely.

You forgot the pong controller. Pre-dates Atari.

I'm not sure if someone said it already or not but Pong with the paddles connected to the game console was first!

#25 good controller, but its lack of a true 2nd joystick crippled it in the FPS world.

#26 is still the best controller ever. Although I had to ditch my 360 for a PS3 after the 3rd one broke. I am still not a fan of the PS controller, but you do get used to it.

I always thought that the point of the three legs on the N64 controller was to allow it to be held in multiple ways, depending on the game- middle and left gave you d-pad and thumbstick, L and Z triggers, and B&A still in reach. Middle and right gave you analog stick and all 6 face buttons, along with the R and Z triggers, while Left and Right gave you D-pad and the 6 face buttons plus the L and R triggers.

Unfortunately, the whole thing was a bit too small for teenage and up aged gamers to use in the various ways- the controller is just proportioned for smaller hands.

Also, the classic Xbox controller was the most comfortable controller I've ever used. Oh, and the d-pad on the 360 controller doesn't suck if you get one of the later-model ones with the two-mode d-pad

#1 God I would beat this thing to death and it always worked…LOL

No keyboard+Mouse=colossal disappointment. I grew up on WASD, LMB & RMB, and it's still the best way to play.

#21 Revolutionized analog control for consoles. Sony and their copycat business model couldn't go with out copying the the idea of analog control.

the Microsoft Sidewinder controller for PC predated the Playstation controller, and is the foundation of all controllers since.

the first playstation controller was slightly squarer around the bottom of the girps

#29 I'm sorry, but regardless of how effective it is, I think the Move looks silly.

  • SegaFan

You forgot the Sega Saturn 3D controller, that was the first use of the analog stick and inspired the Dreamcast and XBox controller.
