Sir Richard Branson has cut the red ribbon on Virgin Galactic's Spaceport America in New Mexico. White Knight Two and Space Ship Two are ready to take visitors into space for a mere $200,000 per ticket. 450 people have already purchased tickets through Ticketmaster and were charged $21,000 in fees.*

*Ticketmaster part is not true, but could be.

    I can't believe he actually did it……

If only Branson would get the Galaxy Nexus for Virgin Mobile. That would be truly OUT OF THIS WORLD!

I think this is awesome. It's possible that the 40 years old or less generation could actually see space flight for the average person. It's $200K now but in 30 years it could be $5k.

Do you have any bridges to sell?

    If only I had $200 000 to spare…

You’re a tard. It would be more than 5k or even 200k with inflation.

    • Up yours

No sir, you are a retard. Do you think air travel is relatively as expensive and inaccessible as it was thirty years ago?

I remember like 5-10 years ago some rich Russian paid tens of millions of dollars to go to space. Although it was on a shuttle and clearly a better experience than this would be, it’s pretty obvious that with advancing technology and greater demand, the price will continue to drop until it too is accessible by a great deal of middle class people. And I can’t fucking wait.

Reminds me of Final Fantasy 8

For some reason I pictured this looking like the space port from Star Wars IV.

  • your mom

Totally awesome way for rich pretentious fucks living on their parents dime to blow money they could donate to something worthy like childhood burn victims. Screw you Bruce Wayne!!!

  • Human

Dear chive if I work in your offices naked for a month would you buy me a ticket to go into space?

  • Boooger

Thank you Sir Branson, for using your opportunity that very few people have to really advance science and our future.

  • Rick

America gets all the cool stuffz :(

  • Franklin1138

I'd do it if I had a disposable $200,000. A chance to go into space? Hell, yes!

my classmate's mother makes $84 every hour on the internet. She has been fired for 10 months but last month her check was $8514 just working on the internet for a few hours. Read about it on this site

I hope people actually realize where they are headed before they stow away in the landing gear of that thing!!

On a serious note: Being in the aircraft industry for over 26 years it's amazing where we have ended up in "so little" time.

Chive On!……and please fasten your seats belts :)

This thing will go great! Awesome! Fantastic ….. right up to the point some of these civilian peeps burn up when an engine blows, or they run out of oxygen before landing, or tumble out of the sky and “spaceship-two” becomes a high priced exotic lawn-dart.

So after only $90mil in ticket sales, 10 rides go up, and Branson nabs just a third of development costs, it’ll go Chap-13.

If I could afford to buy Johnny Depp’s yacht, I would spend the money on tickets for the 10th or so flight *after* nobody dies screaming in a huge fireball…. I may be a geek…but I’m a cautious one…

#3 Got chills looking at this pic. It's like the future introduced itself and plopped down on our couch to stay awhile. America has its own spaceport, too cool!

  • M.O.T.

First commercial flights to space and they name one of the shuttles "Space Ship 2". At least you know every possible penny went into the flight part 'cause they'd clearly run out of money when they had to pay the guy that came up with the name…

  • Auz_E

Very Nice! Imagine if it was built over water, FTW!

  • ludača

    that's soooo cool!
