Don't think it offends people, it's simply a comment on how stupid it is to think God is not stopping wars but helping you play football

And if it was merely a belief there would be no problem. It's not believing in god the problem, it's the writing telling them to spread it, it's the creationists polluting our kids' minds with their shit, it's the fact it bolsters the religious institution and regress any civilization's progress to understanding our world.

I think its funny how Atheists complain about having religion shoved down their throats, while shoving their beliefs down everyone else's throat.

            • Jesusdied4u12

You say "down their throats" a lot. Do you have something shoved down your throat at the moment, sir?

              • TheMoose03

I said it twice.. I didn't know twice was considered a lot. In fact, you also said it twice. Does that mean you have something shoved down your throat?

Atheism: the religion devoted to the worship of one's own smug sense of superiority

      • Truth

        Well said sir

      • Frédéric Purenne

Atheism : the clear-minded state allowing one's self perception to see we are nothing but animals, and that our sense of compassion comes from the capacity of our brain to understand it through natural means.

Where the fuck is the sense of superiority in that? Thinking that a God made us into his image? Now THAT's a sense of supreiority!

        • j_rizzo

You describe atheism as a clear-minded state and ask where the sense of superiority is?

Evangelical Atheists are some of the most self-important, insufferable pricks in the world.

          • Devin

Lumping a bunch of people into one description to bolster your argument? Nice job, Rizzo. You're so smart.

            Right on, Frédéric.

            • j_rizzo

People who behave in a similar way and share common beliefs lump themselves together.

Perhaps your missed the modifier I placed in front of "atheist".

I hold all zealots in the same low regard.

              • BigRick69

When you embrace atheism, you learn more and more about the science behind life and the universe. When you embrace religion, you stop discovering and become closed-minded. Which one seems more likely to put people on the path toward discovering truth?

                • j_rizzo

You don't need to proselytize me, I am an educated, rational person. Your truth doesn't work for everybody.

                  • Devin

Agreed. I'm not even atheist. :P

                  • Frédéric Purenne

It is quite possible for you to be educated and rational. It doesn't remove the fact that you still have a imaginary friend, that you cannot accept your surroundings' state no matter what they are, that you insult people that shed themselves of falsehoods and dogmas and that you cannot understand atheism is not a religion.

Now a militant activist as myself, being atheist toward any religion and agnostic toward god might have some motivation, fervent spirit and might look like on a crusade… BUT it still doesn't count as a religion : because I do not believe any status without facts presented (facts, not arguments) and I do not follow anybody or belong in any group. We still have people hating gays, african not wearing condoms, you guys still have states that doesn't allow a politician who isn't on oath under God. Yes religion is a problem.

              • i<3religiondebate

modifier? which time? the time you said "Atheism: the religion devoted to the worship of one's own smug sense of superiority" or the time you said "Evangelical Atheists are some of the most…". it seems to me that you first made a sweeping generalization, then you later decided to specify.
also, i would posit that if true atheists (those not just claiming it to be rebellious or argumentative) are perceived as being smugly superior, it is because it is a by-product of comparing oneself against others who have what seems to be a barbaric and immature belief. it's not as if you can be an atheist and think someone else believing in a deity is rational or logical or understandable. they are mutually exclusive.
that said, what person on any side of a religious, political, or almost any other debate doesn't believe the other party is ignorant, immature, or misguided – therefore being smug in their superiority on the position of ____?

                • j_rizzo

When I said "Atheism…" I was describing a religion, when I said "Evangelical Atheists…" I was describing a group of people. It's fairly obvious that I used the modifier "evangelical" so as to not lump all atheists into one group.

RE: "what person on any side of a religious, political, or almost any other debate doesn't believe the other party is ignorant…"

An immature, closed-minded person behaves like this. Enjoy your fall break.

      • Leeks

Any religion ever: devoted to the smug sense that one's deity/dietys of choice are the superior/true one.

      • A2_tha_MFK

Calling Atheism a Reglion is like calling "Bald" a hair colour. And we aren't the ones with a superiority complex, when was the last time you heard an Atheist kill someone in the name of Atheism?

        • Hooter Brown

FYI, Atheism has legally been declared a religion.

When was the last time you heard anyone kill anyone in the name of Christianity?

You claim that Christians are the ones shoving religion down people's throats, but you are the one that started this entire debate by ridiculing what someone else believes. Who's forcing what view here? To quote the bible here: "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." ~Matthew 7:5

Anyway, hell of a football play.

          • rly?

oh well since it's been "legally declared", that means something. good point. nothing has been declared legal that wasn't complete and utter idiocy before.

        • j_rizzo

You don't feel superior, but you are comfortable telling other people that that their religion is bullshit… are you a missionary? Atheists, especially the radicals among you, behave in exactly the same manner as theists belonging to an organized religion, sans praying. And don't be naive, the religion of atheism is insignificant in terms of believers (less than 3% of the world's population subscribe to your dogma), but millions of people have been killed by atheists and/or atheistic regimes. Which God did Pol Pot pray to?

Your tired platitudes don't make a convincing argument.

          • Tom

Don't forget about Stalin and the communists. They actively tried to create a society based on atheism, and we all know how many deaths they were responsible for.

      • Catalystika

One of my favorites has always been, "God is an imaginary friend for adults."

Seriously though, while I consider myself an atheist, no one person should ever inflict their religion or lack thereof upon someone else. Want to be Christian and worship God? Go right ahead. Want to be believe in the Spaghetti Monster and be touched by his noodley appendage? Knock yourself out. This world is large enough for everyone to live their lives according to their own plan, as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's ability to do the same. Live and let live and all that stuff.

PS — Radicals on both sides scare me… religious and atheistic alike. Yikes. Relax.
PPS — Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. One of the funniest things I've ever read. Really funny stuff.

      To your original comment, A2_tha_MFK:

The thing about God is that he is there. Always. Everywhere. At every second of all time with every person. We can't even understand this because we are not given the capability. Isn't that baffling? That our brains are only able to reach certain limits and imaginations that we can't even comprehend to know what God really is? That we aren't even given the ability through knowledge to know what our Creator knows?
I believe more than anything that God is with the soldiers fighting wars (all sides), and the millions of children starving around the world. He is there just as much as He is with a team on a football field. And He is there just as much as He is with you reading this on your computer screen.
God gave us the freedom to choose, and we as people fought wars, and starved children, and polluted the planet, and created football games that make the former items seem less important at times.
God has the power to create beings that love and obey Him at all times and He could have done this instead of giving free will to man. But if you forced your children to tell you they loved you, would they even mean it?
I know God loves all of his creations. ALL of his creations. I'm talking about the whores of society, the homosexuals, the criminal, the poor, the stupid, the disgusting, the outcasts. In fact, look at the people in the Bible that Jesus made certain he visited with. NOBODY is beyond the reach of the Grace of God.
I know a lot of Atheist roll their eyes at this. But God is inviting YOU to know Him. Even right now.
People WILL let you down. But God will not.
      Jesus is Love.
Give the video attached a little look-see.

I do love football and this was one hell of a play.

Whereas you, addressing a Chivette you've never met, are proud of calling her a whore?

        • MonkeyMadness

So, you're assuming she knows everyone she's calling bitches?

          • Krysten

If you beat somebody for the first time in the history of your school, it is something to be proud of…especially when it was a great game against a good team. So watch your mouth please sir, I am no whore.
Besides I did meet a lot of people at the bar I bar tend at after the game was over and the night before. I have never had any problems with customers until that night….guess what color shirt they were wearing. Not green and gold, but red and white. So yes, I have met a good number of fans from the other side. I'm not saying they are bitches, I am saying 'sic em bitches' which is an explatory for 'fuck yeah' :) Still a proud Baylor Chivette!

this is going to be the top play..? some bull shit lucky shot…? and you americans still dare to claim that football (AKA soccer) i boring???

    • NavyAdam

Are you claiming that you made some resounding point in this comment??? When soccer goals make the top ten, they are often "some bull shit lucky shot." That's what people like to see.

    • j_rizzo

The only times soccer is exciting is when there is a bullshit lucky shot

    • Barry Switzer

We think soccer is boring, because IT FUCKING IS BORING!!! 90 minutes of about 2000 passes and about 4 shots on goal. I say 90 minutes, but nobody really know because there is no real clock.

The OU-Baylor game was a great game to watch (unless you're me, and an OU alum). Big plays, momentum changes, lead changes, possible overtime, etc.

    • TheMoose03

I think soccer is only fun when you play it. Watching it is just like.. "What else is on?"

      • Larry

every sport is like that. It's only fun when you're playing but boring if you watch it because you don't care about it.

  • Biggus Diccus

Thanks Chive for making me relive this awful game. Baylor caught all the breaks in this game.

    • The Big Machine

Seriously, I was at the game and it was amazing. In fact, OU got some pretty nice breaks. Recall, the first quarter touchdown by Baylor that was called back from a holding call? Or how about when Baylor's Williams lost control of the ball just as he was about to run in for a touchdown. How about when OU WASN'T called for horse-callering, but on the very NEXT play Baylor was called for it when the replay clearly showed he DIDN'T. Don't act like OU wasn't playing the #2 in the nation offense led by arguably the best in the nation QB in RG3. Sic 'em.

      • Truth
