Well why the fuck would you leave that camera there?

    • kent

      Time lapse maybe.

    • lonin

What did he do, set and forget? Talk about poor planning letting it get hit by a wave like that, I thought the log was going to be the thing that took it out.

  • fuck off

how the fuck did the film get out then?? waste of time video

    • Wow

Just because the camera was trashed doesn't mean the SD card inside was, genius.

      • Dan

That's right, I once left a flash drive in my pants pocket and it went through my washer and dryer, as soon as I found it I put it into my computer and it was fine. I actually just used it today, over a year after it happened. I didn't think this was a waste of time either, it brought a smile to my face.

        • Fat K

exact thing happened to me as well, mine was a Scandisk Cruzer Blade

          • Andy Valentine

exactly.. my Canon 550 D has insurance which covers me if i drop it in the sea or any kind of accidental damage basically.

  • Huge

    • Jaba

Yep. It's Cannon Beach in Oregon.

      • jamesjackson4

        I instantly recognized them.

  • Andy Valentine

Surely he lost $2400 in 1 second. The other 23 seconds were just the build up to said loss.

  • Capt Obvious

That's the body only cost. No telling what lens he had which could effectively double that estimate.

  • Mr. T

Ouch… At least he took it well and made a "short film" out of it.

  • C Wags

Wish the huge tree limb would have taken it out first!

  • Tim S.

Not sure if Kurtis is reading this or how to reach out to him…but MOST credit cards will replace his camera. Amex will 1)Extend the warranty by 1 year (of course his camera is not covered under warranty in this case) and 2)will REPLACE any item within 90 days of purchase if it is lost or stolen. I would call this lost.

  • jaell41

5D Mark II is weather-sealed, so as long as you're using an L-series (also weather-sealed) lens, the camera MIGHT be able to withstand a brief dunking. Salt water & sand are killers for any electronics, so you'd have to be RIGHT THERE to fish the camera out before any prolonged dunking. So I'll take the guy at his word that the camera was wrecked, but as others have posted–many credit cards would cover this, and there is camera insurance, too (not to mention personal item insurance policies).

But the biggest point is that if you've EVER been to a beach before, you know that waves are sneaky bastards, and putting $2500+ worth of equipment into that situation is stupid. Posting a video of your stupidity online is vain.

This is basically a faceplant video without the blood (and shirtless white trash).

  • George

Should have used a GoPro HD.

  • Steven

Should be fine.. The camera is waterproof.

    • Jay Ell

      Umm, no.

From Canon's page on the 5D Mark II:

"High performance with 3.9 fps continuous shooting, new shutter with a durability of 150,000 cycles and improved weather-resistant body."

This falls under the area of "posting bullshit about shit about which you know jack shit, thus showing how you are full of shit."

      • seasonsalt

        Relax, you being uppity douche.
You don't need to shit your pants.

Where is this video taken at.. and if the video only lasts like 30 seconds, how does water/ tide move that fast? and that high? forgive me, im no scientist, but i have seen waves, but never go like 50 yrds inland… :/

    • http://www.facebook.com/porterol Raliegh Porter

unless its time lapsed? but the wave does not recede at all?

    • HUH?

welcome to the oregon coast. tourists call them "sneaker waves". the rest of us just call them "waves". thats what they do in oregon. the waves come in, the waves go out, you just cant explain that……..

      • BassPro63

this person is right if you have never been those so call " sneaker waves " will get you when you least expect. P.s. it is sweet to watch those waves get the unaware passerby's.
