In the city of Harbin in China it gets cold during the winter, scratch that, really cold with temps 20 degrees (C.) below 0. So to stay warm the locals keep themselves busy every year by hosting the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. Artists and engineers get together to build massive structures out of ice – a small town if you will, consisting of churches, pyramids, pagodas and palaces. The structures are filled with modern amenities like elevators and escalators. Multicolored lights are installed inside the sculptures, making them look very beautiful in the dark. The ice festival has been held in Harbin every year since 1985, and it only continues to get bigger and more impressive every year.
