"Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events."

One of the greatest PM's our country has had.

  • ABC

Not for all of it – Neville Chamberlain was P.M. at the start and Clement Atlee at the end. Churchill was just P.M. for the exciting middle of the war.

We need heroes today like him. Straight up, in your face, without PC and bullshit. He, and Harry Truman, could turn this cesspool around.

he also once said (after the invesion of germans to greece). we will no longer say that greeks fought like heros, but heros fight like greeks.

    • AnyoneForCoffee

A new one to me and I like it.

I'll send that to a Greek friend of mine right now!

"A modest little man, with much to be modest about." His alleged comment on Attlee.

Churchill knew what made the best Ad-libs- he made sure they were always prepared beforehand.

    #13 . . . I know that bar, I live near there. . . . that must mean . . . . .there are other Delco Chivers! or Chivettes!

  • butterface

The man's words never fail to motivate the sh*t outta me.

My favorite Churchill quote is still "That is something up with which I will not put." It's the perfect example when arguing for why ending a sentence in a preposition is considered grammatical.

  • Bill

My favorite: "If you're mot a liberal at 20 you have no heart. But if you're not a conservative by 40 you have no brain".

I like his saying "A flute with no holes, is not a flute. A donut with no hole, is a Danish." No wait, that was the Zen philosopher Basha.

And nowadays we have politicians who can't put together a sentence…

  • Paul

He was one of the greatest politications of the 20th century.

  • Paul

With Neville "peace in our time" Chamberlain they screwed up so badly they begged Churchill to come. And then, sadly, before WW2 had even ended they voted him out. Yes they voted in a socialist party… and you see were they are now.

Gad, they traded the LION for some bankrupt sheep.

Inarguably, one of the GREATEST LEADERS any nation has ever had. If we had leaders with balls of steel who could give a G** DAMN about politicial correctness in power today, the world would not be the shi**y mess it is. Sir Winston Churchill would WEAP at the pathetic Liberals and how they’re weakening this once great power. I leave you with this BRILLIANT Churchill quote, “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherant virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” See how TRUTH survives the years!

Your use of capitals stresses your point well and does not make you seem like a terrible tool.

  • PappyCrux

Winston Churchill, Great Brittan's version of Teddy Roosevelt!

  • Graham Lynk

I’ve grown up living war history and WW2 is my favorite period to study mostly because of the bad-assery of Churchill!
