We're breakfast junkies here at theCHIVE and two weeks ago, I posted some of the best breakfast joints that I'd ever been. But I also asked the Chivers for their favorite breakfast dives. These are some of your favorites...

And this, America, is why we're fat.

    • Balls and Ass

And that is why you have no friends

    • Wet_tosti

      You spelled morbid obese wrong.

      • daveh873

        You spelled morbidly obese wrong.

    • Kodos

Then get off your fat ass and do some physical activity.

    • tony mc

I'm not American and I find your generalisation pretty shadow… just cos it's made, doesn't mean all Americans pick from this 'menu' and eat nothing but from this menu each day.

    • Ted

      I've been to England.

Their breakfasts are disgusting. If you love fat, salt, and fat, with a slice of tomato on the side, eat breakfast in England.

    • Gallus

As I just commented to someone else, most folks I know don't eat like this every day, especially breakfast. These breakfasts are usually weekend or day off fare. I personally have a large full breakfast about four times a year.

  • kevin

The Red Arrow in NH. Hot drunk spot.

    • Justin

Yup. I don't think the food's all that special, certainly not one of the best, but that's the only place open after the bars close. I've ended many a night there.

    • dominantone

the place to be for sobering up before the drive home!

  • hiug

    • Dan

Honestly, I'd rather have had the first post than the hand-wringing bitch post.

    • theRoddick

When you turn 13 do you think your entertainment standards will rise above "posting first" in website forums? This is theChive, Kiddo. If you can't "be" better, at least "act" better.

      • Gallus

        Well said.

  • Goider

That yolk in the picture is in Chicago

    • simonfox

2nd. Should say "River North Chicago" instead of "River NC".

    • figleaf

… and it is soooooooo yummy there!

  • LucretiusCarus

    #5 A pancake with food coloring–yay, I guess.

#21 Not sure what's crepe style about this. Doesn't look a damned thing like a crepe to me.

    • drea619

      hater ass..

      • LucretiusCarus

*shrug* Just don't think a red or blue pancake is better than a regular one by virtue of the color. Granted, the red velvet should have some cocoa powder, but I'm still not sold. If you ask me, best pancakes are good, old fashion fluffy buttermilk ones. This is just flashy without adding much improvement, from the looks.

And I'm sorry, but those things are not crepe-like in any way. Just look like damned pancakes. They look like very good pancakes, but still pancakes, not crepes.

    • Brutal Deluxe

With you on the food coloring – last thing I want to see in the morning when I feel shitty and hungry is blue food

      • John

In Culinary School I was told that no Natural food is blue. Mold is blue

An because some is going to say something, Blueberries are purple, not blue.

    • Will

If they were crepe style AND looked like crepes, they would probably be crepes. They are pancakes that taste like crepes, and they are amazing. Stop hating.

      • LucretiusCarus

How, exactly, do these taste like crepes? The most defining taste profiles of the crepe are the high egg and fat and the dense nature of the batter. Those things above don't look like they have any of those three attributes. Do you think they taste like crepes because they have some fruit on them? I'd be curious to know what it is that gives them this amazing, crepe-like flavor. I suppose some people might equate the presence of vanilla or a flavored liqueur in the batter with crepe-flavor, though these are not necessary ingredients of a crepe. They do look good. I'd surely eat one–just still greatly confused about what makes them crepe-style.

  • Keet

Forgot the milkshake at Mickie's Dairy Bar

  • Dave

You eat that stuff for breakfast? No idea why Americans are all fat…

    • @McBeastie666

I've eaten a traditional English breakfast and dainty it is not.

    • Derpin

Yeah, because a traditional British fry up is super healthy. Daft git.

    • Brutal Deluxe

Every single one of us is fat? You, sir, aren't spending enough internet time on one of our many quality pro-anorexia pages.

    • Gallus

Dave, no one said we eat like that every day.

    • _maxPain_

Breakfast,,according to many Diet specialist, is the only meal of the day that can be abused of every once in a while..Of course this isn't a daily standard Dave, try to have opinions instead of emotions..

  • MidwestChiver

Ohhh, #20 can't go wrong with shrimp and grits.

    • andfukyamoms

Unfortunately the hominy grill is not even close to the best breakfast in charleston. It's a tourist trap and is waaaay overrated.

    • BuckersAZ

That place is awesome! I eat there a lot

      • Jordan BamSham Couick

I agree, I frequent Charleston (dad lives in Awendaw) and the Seewee Restaurant is waaaayyyy better and MUCH better priced.

        • Jordan BamSham Couick

I'm agreeing with fukyamoms, I should say, lol

          • dwf

Agreed, as a Charleston native…Hominy is nothing but a an overpriced tourist trap. Was decent before Rachel Ray and Tony Bourdain came to town.

            • big bear

first off seewee is in awendaw not charleston, secondly just because you grew up with it doesn't mean its better food, YOU just like it more, and thirdly name one spot that has a better breakfast in Charleston ( and yes inside the city limits) everyone always says these restaurants were better way back before they were famous yet it is the same chef. now is it my favorite restaurant, no…best brunch in town, no but that wasn't the subject. y'all might be native or visit but i live and eat in this city everyday (don't even own a car, not that you could drag me east of the cooper if i did) but this restaurant does but out the best breakfast and the rest of yawl are a bunch of what these young whipper snappers today call "haters" i can't believe y'all wouldn't be proud to have one of OUR restaurants featured on the chive

#15 – Really? There are much better places for breakfast in Atlanta than this.

    • Bobcat Goldth-WHAT!

I don't live in Atlanta, but I have to assume that you are right.
Looks like an Eggo and gross Chicken wings…

    • Tan

I don't understand America & the whole chicken & waffle thing?

      • Whitey

        He's a different color…let's get 'im

    • Atlien

Silver Skillet Diner on 10th street for the full on Southern Breakfast.

    • Brutal Deluxe

Where's the 'Dave is a douche' button?

  • Russell

    Maltby Cafe?
Now that's a local one for me.
Easily the smallest city on there.
I've had my fair share of not only cinnamon roles there, but everything else.

    • Dave

Live in Monroe and never been there. do we even consider it a city?

    • Celazar

I've only been there once so damn busy!

    • benbobbins

Yeah, but have you ever had any cinnamon rolls? They are way better.

    • @kvalberg

I swear you can almost smell them cooking in the morning from my house. Yeah, I live that close.

Best breakfast ever. Huge portions and it's all fresh. I try and go once a month.

Chive on from the Maltby Cafe!

    • Jordan

I was surprised to see the Maltby cafe on there as well. Still, damn fine cinnamon rolls (and everything else).

  • Anonymous

Cafe patachou can suck a fat one. If you want a real breakfast in Indianapolis, go to Charlie Brown’s Pancake & Steak or Mann’s Grille.

  • Poopstains

#28 can get sued for calling that a garbage plate…nick tahou’s has the patent on the garbage plate since they were the creators here in Rochester, NY

  • Tgor

I'm starving now… there's this place locally to me called Maid Marians, everyone flocks there, they have some damned good breakfast there, I could really go for some right now…

  • Whoopy

Love hash house a go go! Damn Jacksonville nc you have nothing ::shakes fist::

  • Josh

#10 is in Hampton, NH ……not Hamton, NH

    • Higgins

      It's North Hampton NH

    • Mike

Went there once Couldn't leave the toilet for 3 days. NEVER AGAIN

  • Bill Jones

Mickey's Dining Car in St. Paul, MN. The first place that comes to mind when I think great breakfast.

    • Slappy_McGee

If you're getting breakfast in Minneapolis/St. Paul, you have to go to Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown. It's unique, delicious, and old school. Best pancakes I've ever had.

  • Frustrated Chiver

C'mon Chive, where is my email regarding my BFM shirt?!?! I will gladly pay full price but i still havent been sent an email with a link?

    • Sean P. Ambot

Just go to the Chivery, look at any shirt, and refresh until the "secret" BFM product shows up.

  • rem

    OC Maryland! Don’t forget doughroller.

  • @jhkayejr

I was surprised to see Blue Heaven didn't make the first list – glad to see it represented here.

  • rem

Oh and Clayton’s in OC is the bomb too.

  • omare

There must be a lot more fat Chivers than I imagined.

  • Jared S

#16 Lived down the road from this place; never understood why it was packed all the time. Now I see why.

    • Dan

If you see a restaurant with a consistently full parking lot, it has good food. <–ProTip

      • Swamp1983
