Wow… You really think you're supposed to take a drink while the plate is resting on your beer. Smart dude you must be. I think its more about freeing up a hand while walking through the buffet line or being able to eat food with your free hand since you are not using two to hold both. If you want a drink… you hold the plate in one hand and take a sip with the other, moron. Hate to call you out, but I don't like the negativity.
