A little inspiration goes a long way (25 Photos)

#2 Or to those who inherit all their good things from rich relatives.

    • Kyle

Paris Hilton works hard. Do you think it is easy to get every std known to man and then some more?

    • trill

      commie much?

      • HammerBro

It's true. 45-60% of a parent's financial advantage is likely to be passed down to Johnny Richboy, who will in turn never have to sustain a callous on his silver spoon holding hands. But, if Average Joe works hard enough, puts himself through college, and attains a degree, the maybe one day he'll be able to work for him.

        • jasonB

Missed the whole point didn't you. Quit bitchin', get off your ass and make it happen. Don't be so jealous, and maybe someday you can pass on your wealth to your children and not some leach who feels entitled to your hard-work.

        • thedude325

I've heard that by the 3rd generation, all inherited wealth is squandered. Just because they had money fall into their lap, doesn't make them special or happy. It just means that money fell into thier lap.

          • videologic

exactly, the quote say "good things" not "wealth"

        • LucretiusCarus

I was just sorta making a joke. But interesting thread it sparked.

But ultimately, using wealth as some sort of metric of hard work must be a logical fallacy. As HammerBro points out, there are many people who are wealthy who didn't do squat to become that way except have a Rich Uncle Pennybags who died. There are plenty of dudes hard at work out there cleaning a toilet who don't have a dime.

          • Urethra Franklin

Obviously, but hard work gives intrinsic rewards, rewards you cannot buy, read, or inherit.

life is empty when you have earned nothing

    • http://www.facebook.com/eacheek Eric Cheek

Give your children enough so that they can do anything…but not so much that they can do nothing.

      • Urethra Franklin

So many kids feel so entitled and its the parents who didn't see it coming. Everyone wants to grow up, go to college and get a job for 40 years. Bust your ass, fail a few times and make something of yourself

    • Underbaker

Bad things come to them as well, Heart Attack's, High Blood Pressure, and a realization that you spent so much time working for your future that you forgot to enjoy the present. Somewhere there is a happy median that we all need to find.

  • Ned_Plimpton

If you say "my cocaine" it sounds like you're saying "Michael Caine" in his accent.

    • baba ganoush

      i lol'd
      …slow clap*

    • bob

      Nice, Ned. Thumbs up.

I really needed this one today

      • StingRay

        You and me both Prime!

    • But very truthful

What if they literally rip you limb from limb? Don't think much conquering would be done then 😀

  • MattyDeuce

#2 Truth. I am so tired of hearing my students call someone a "try-hard" when they put in effort in the classroom. My dad raised me to bust my ass and work hard for everything…since when is it such a bad thing to want to do well? Fucking kids.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1006050018 Tyler Brown

The only thing that's worse is if the "try-hards" listen, and start slacking like everyone else.

    • tv_paul

Buckaroo Banzi: Where ever you go, there you are.

    • adamscottmartin

Don't worry – they may call people names like "try-hard" now, but someday they will be saying "would you like fries with that?" thanks to their ignorance. Karma is a mean bitch.

      • Smitty

Or they end up in a park, crying that its not fair!

        • Tiffany

    • Tiffany

Ha! Never heard "try-hard" before.. probably because I don't stand around waiting to hear what haters think of my work ethic. In any case, I'll wear the title proudly. Shit. I might even start a "try-hard" club.

  • LucretiusCarus

I always expect one day to see a quote from Conan the Barbarian on one of these.

Conan! What is best in life?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

    That is good!

    What could be more inspirational?

    • http://echogeo.wordpress.com/ echogeo

      "By Crom!"

    • M-W

I have the shirt from thinkgeek.. love it

    • NebraskaGuy

      Well said!

… but ya have to do Arnold's accent in your head for full effect! 😉

      • Underbaker

Is there any other way to read Conan quotes?

      • Guest

Try NOT doing it in his accent. Damn near impossible!

    • RAC

It was actually Genghis Khan: One day in the pavilion at Karakorum he [Genghis Khan] asked an officer of the Mongol guard what, in all the world, could bring the greatest happiness.

"The open steppe, a clear day, and a swift horse under you," responded the officer after a little thought, "and a falcon on your wrist to start up hares."

"Nay," responded the Khan, "to crush your enemies, to see them fall at your feet — to take their horses and goods and hear the lamentation of their women. That is best."

      • LucretiusCarus

Didn't know it had any basis in real life. But thanks for the info.

  • littlet

    true #25

    • tempest

In my experience, you're lucky if that only happens once in your life.

  • pat

#11 cant wait for support group tonight

  • Un-chive

Remove iphone banner ads, they are awful!!

    • TheLimey

what iphone banner ads? Try firefox with adblocker plus

    • Craigery

Remove them yourself with AdBlock. Good things come to those who get off their asses and try instead of waiting for someone else to do it for them.

      • andfukyamoms

there is no adblock available for iphone homie.

  • mojo77

  • tv_paul

Fish, for sport only, not for meat. Fish meat is practically a vegetable.

    • tv_paul

Wow, no love for Ron Swanson, what's America coming to?

      • thedude325

For real man, that was a great quote. Chive's been raining thumbs down lately.

  • George Zip

Good thread for a true shit-fest of a day.

  • Drunken Homo Farts

#12 not true…i got drunk and had sex 20 years ago

    • http://twitter.com/HondoMaximus @HondoMaximus

Perhaps in 20 years you'll look back and be disappointed that you didn't post with a handle that wasn't "Drunken Homo Farts"

  • luckyB

#25 well this really hit home….

  • http://echogeo.wordpress.com/ echogeo

Posts like this & Chive Everywhere balance out the T&A posts rather nicely.

  • http://www.thechive.com Jared S

    #15 enough said.

    • monstrinho

what about the one where it's exam day and i haven't studied. And i'm naked for somereason.

      • http://www.thechive.com Jared S

well i suppose that all depends…

  • http://echogeo.wordpress.com/ echogeo

This can be a very hard lesson to learn.

    • http://www.cupcakesbymartha.com MarthaJeane

And an even harder one to actually carry through with.

      • Mojofotoman

and when you do, they still manage to find blame in you instead of themselves.. Even if you are completely honest with them..

        • http://echogeo.wordpress.com/ echogeo

          That's when you KC&CO!

          • Brutal Deluxe

That sounds like too much trouble. I'll just order a hooker.

            • Smitty

This isn't just about dating. It could also be friends and family. Try not to be the one being given up on.

    • Wump

I think that quote, your reply, and the tread it started has become my new daily affirmation!
