I wish I was back in Vegas!!

  • Sceptic

    It's like so useful!

yeah i can see most toddlers being interested in topography or relief mapping.

    • Izzy

I don't really see this as being marketed towards kids but to adults as a relaxation tool like a Zen Garden. I'm studying to be a therapist and I could therapist and counselors using this as an aide.

    • itstanrum

I can. Maybe it won't be known to them by those specific words, but seriously? Telling your 3-5 year old "Hey, you want to help me create a planet?" They'd be on that shit quick.

Moreover, make the tech mainstream, and see how awesome the next SimCity is.

  • chobobo

if it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't fully comprehend the greatness of beer, bacon, and babes this would be a good reason to go back to being a kid.

    • colleen

its just light projected look at the shadow when the hand is in the shot

i would spend hours doing this
    its like god powers

  • Country Fan

not interesting at all, i see those all the time at the malls

  • fed

is it available for litter boxes?

  • Captain awesome

Back in my day we had sand and pales of water and that was good enough for us

    • Matt

If you didn't realize, this is using real sand too, but not real water. Its a projector and maybe a kinect.

    • KCCO

  • vvv

so i guess i gotta ask

    • ArticJester

They appear to be somehow measuring the height of the sand, running it through a computer and then projecting back an altered version.

      • coleen

its just light projected look at the shadow when the hand is in the shot

        • ArticJester

How's about No. I could explain more, but as an electronic engineering student I can't articulate my words in such away as to explain… But in any case… no.

          • JLK

Looks like college is really paying off for you huh?

            • ArticJester

I don't always talk like a jackass, but when I do I'm home sick and have exams in one week. Yeah it is actually, I love my course. I still can’t form a coherent sentence though. ;(

    • Matt

Most likely a Kinect to measure the height of the sand and a projector to project the altered image back.

      • ArticJester

Yeah, just saw this on another site, you are correct sir.

  • c'man mac

'sand is now interactive' ??? looks like Mac might need to go back to getting approval before he gets to post anything.

  • wikisaurus

I want my 30 seconds back

  • Salt

Let's make it rain up in this bitch.

  • Token Black Chiver

And now kids can eat interactive sand!

  • feltersnatch

Where does the cat shit go?

  • http://cinemaplastique.tumblr.com MigraineBoy

Just let the kids play outside. There is no use for this.

  • Anonymouse

I'm not thinking this should be for kids, i was thinking more real-time battle maps. I had an image of generals drawing out the lay of the land, and the projector showing up little markers for soldiers 🙂

  • Travis

a lot of grumps this morning. i think this is pretty neat

    • sniza_maniz

As a kid, I would have LOVED something like this.

  • mike

it'd be interesting to see what some real artists could do with something like this

  • Bob

Clever but real sand is better.

  • rjc0235

wow. what a useless / useful object.
useless as a toy, but i can imagine this being very very interesting for people wanting to make terrain for games, as heightmaps are so ancient and need to be changed

    • Cantaloupe

Useless as a toy… but as a game it's a great idea? Wtf?

      • rjc0235

learn to read badly written english.

  • Flow

Mhh yes, future children, come play in my colorful sandbox. What? It needs to be dark in here, trust me.

    It's a trap.

  • hmmmm

    Mind officially not blown.

  • fuck you stan

you really make this too easy…… fucking pedo bitch
