I wouldn't say bizarre, I would say useless.

    • Tommy

Suddenly everything smells of waffles and brussels sprouts.

  • @bdaley84

#16 would have made waiting for the bus much better. Who doesn't love slides?

  • Oltimey

This is what happens when you assemble IKEA furniture on drugs.

    • MigraineBoy

No, that's what happens when you assemble IKEA furniture.

  • Guest

  • Acesevens

What else is there to do in Belgium but make benches that people won't sit on?

    • jay from belgium

eat fries, have a beer and laugh at people trying to act cool as they fall off these benches 🙂

    • AmBush_Steve

Um, Drink beer? One of the best countries for that. Um, eat moules et frites? Also great. Oh and who can forget the chocolate. Fuck Switzerland, Godiva & Leonidas are the two best chocolate makers in the world.

Lived there for 3 years. Never at a loss for something to do.

    • Simon

And let's not forget to re-enact In Bruges.

      • jadedhero1331

        "Danish artist Jeppe Hein"

  • Lil John

Keeps the hobos away at night.

  • wdh

LOL we need this in the US, for all the homeless and drunk ppl.

    • Desi

Yeah. Instead of helping the homeless find, oh, I dunno, A FUCKING HOME waste money putting up artsy Dutch benches.

      • wdh

yea because most homeless in the US are homeless because their lazy asses couldn't hold a job. Why help them? that will just make it easier for them to remain homeless.. whenever i see em i just wanna say GROW SOME SELF RESPECT AND GET A FUCKIN JOB. They can start anywhere from helping at a construction site to cleaning places i mean wtf.

        • wdh is a loser

Says the guy who probably still lives with mom and dad. . .

          • wdh

            you guys are morons..
            1. i said most, there are disabled homeless but thats like 1%
            2. if you guys had any friends who spent time at a halfway house you get to know their panhandling schemes. they don't starve, they have shelters and food stamps that keep them fed. they want your money for drugs and alchohol.
            3. if you had a friend in EMT, you'd know they always call for some bullshit to get a bed to sleep in for free. they can think up of all these schemes yet they cant get a job? thats bullshit.
            and you guys fail

        • If you said so...

Are you being sarcastic or are you serious? The unfortunate truth is that most homeless people are homeless because they are, at least partially, insane. With how easy it is to get somewhere in america, anybody that can do jack shit can get a job and maintain some semblance of civilitude.

  • AstroMikeDexter

#15 looks like some sort of sweet slot-car set.

  • fotnot

Seems like something America might do…"Lets blow our money on something totally useless….but lets use the taxpayer's money." Lol

  • Desi

    Don't care. Had bench.

  • Wim Helsen

These benches are part of Beaufort04 (

Beaufort04 is the fourth edition of the Triennial of Contemporary Art by the Sea in 2012.

The Triennial has become an indispensable cultural event which is not to be missed. The Belgian coast and contemporary art have found one another again through monumental installations and intriguing works of art embedded in the unique biotope of the dynamic coastal municipalities.

An artistic commission headed by Phillip Van den Bossche, curator for Beaufort04, and intendant Jan Moeyaert made a studied selection of European contemporary artists. The selected works of art are a reflection of what is happening in the contemporary European art scene. With new or existing works, the artists respond to the environment outside the museum and share an imaginative and imaginary world with the visitors of the coast.

Again, the fourth edition of the Triennial of Contemporary Art will undoubtedly cause a summery sensation and give rise to artistic reflections along the Belgian coast.

      too long of a response

    • Master_Rahl

    • @bdaley84

Your store called. They're running out of you.

      • jerkstore_

What's the difference? You're their all-time best seller!

        • @bdaley84

Still the funniest show on TV. Chive on.

  • Climb

That's awesome. We need more whimsy in America.

  • tv_paul

These benches are an injury attorney's wet dream.

    • Desi

In the US, maybe. Of course, in the US they probably never would have been put up. Some roach or other bug would have been threatened, so. . .

    • Ben

Only in the US they sue people for little nothings….
Get your head straight and don't try to get rich by suing people!

  • Blue bronco

    Fuzzy Foreigners

  • frankus

these are the most retarded things i have ever seen. lets ruin all the benches and call it 'art'

  • loyal chiver

too bad litigation in america would prevent something interestingl/fun like this from happening…

we all knnow some idiot would file a frivolous lawsuit against the city or someone to 'get rich quick'

    • Dan

I sure would. Talk about an easy way to make money.

But the "artist" is the real rip-off king. He actually got paid for this shit.

    • matt

Exactly. Dear America: THIS IS WHY YOU CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS. Fire all the lawyers into the sun, then get back to us. Sincerely, The Rest of the World
