This is a sneak peak look at Peter Jackson’s new town of Hobbiton located in New Zealand. The beautiful set looks like somewhere I wouldn’t mind laying my head for a while.

The Shire! It's gonna be so much fun! Can't wait for the Hobbit movie!
It's a movie set. built on the original Hobbiton/Shire set from LOTR. It IS awesome and I would love to visit again after they do this movie. Peter Jackson has a rule of returning the land to as original as before the production set foot on it. but with all the publicity, I hope he will leave a bit more behind than just the facades and Underhill manor.
Current plan is to retain much of the set after the film is released, a boost for local tourism.
He (Peter Jackson) has invested a lot of his considerable fortune on creating and improving film-making and tourist related buildings in New Zealand. His World War One Air Museum in Omaka just outside Blenheim at the top of the South Island has dioramas created by Weta Workshops. Astoundingly real scenes.
This is some truly innovative stuff going on there. It would be really cool to be able to work on that set.
These are SO sweet!! I would live in one if given the opportunity!
The work put into this one set >> than all Twilight movies combined. Even if you're not a fan, you have to respect the tremendous work and attention to detail. They don't make these movies to turn a quick buck, they make them because of a genuine love of the story.
I've been to Hobbiton. I'm famous
This is the first time I've ever commented on a chive post. I've been dar-ing for months now and love chive! This post however, is my favorite in the last few months! Ever since the first film came out, I've been saying' "I want to live in a hobbit house".. Seriously, awesome!!!!
Also, I watched a behind the scenes look at this hobbit village on the DVD for the Fellowship. It's a 2 disc pack, and the 2nd disc has a couple featurrettes called "finding hobbiton" and "hobbiton comes alive".. Watching those will make you want to live in a hobbit home even more!!
Someone tried building a hobbit themed community in Bend Oregon. It didn't turn out so well for them. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2009/…
i live in new zealand and peter jackson lives down the road from me, i mean like 2km down the road haha he has hobbit house at his place.
I worked there for 4 months, not a bad place to enjoy a beer at the end of the day.
These are so cool. If I don't build my home from natural building principles, I will do this very thing.
I was just there a couple days ago!
Fabulous post. can't wait to see these movies and the ground breaking technology they lead too.
