Matt W: Never give up. Never, never, never. (Video)

More than anything else, Matt wanted to run in his school’s Field Day race last week. Unfortunately, Matt has spastic cerebral palsy, a difficult disorder that makes moving, especially running, very hard for him. But Matt decided to run anyway, and what happened next is unbearably beautiful.

    The words "awesome" and "beautiful" were used as tags for this video, but I would throw in "strength" and "courage," too! That could not have been easy for him and he was the model of strength and courage.

    as someone who was unable to walk and had crutches as a child i can tell that other kids can be real assholes. it was great to see his classmates support him. he probably could have better if his enormous balls hadn't got in his way. that's guts on an impressive level.

    OK..It's been said…..I gotta say again;
    That Kid has more strength of spirit amidst social shit than you can imagine.
    OK, next up; all the fat Mom's and Dads. Go!

  • LuvsHorror

    You go, Matt!

    This is exactly what I neded to see today. Thank you Matt. Thank you Chive.

    He's not a kid in my eyes, he's a damn man. He's has more heart, faith and courage then 99% of the people I've run across in my life. He has an excuse to give up and yet he pushed to the very end, pain and all. There were times you could see the pain and he pushed through it.

    This is my new hero. I hope to have heart this young man has and the courage to never give up like him.

    Life is beautiful, this is my favorite part of being a Chiver.

  • PubicJones

    -113!!!! Thanks fellow Chivers for helping achieve this goal. Again much respect to this kid. Thank you for taking my comment way out of context and wasting your time on me. I love all of you.

    Love it! This vid touched me in two ways:
    1) I am a high school teacher in an urban school district and as "hard" as the kids try to be, they always offer help and kindness to our life skills students (those with CP, MS and ASD) there is nothing more surprising than seeing one of these kids willingly offer to return a lunch tray or volunteer to help in the lifeskills room without asking for a "reward"
    2) I am a parent of a child with Autism, and I understand how the "simple" things to most can be a monumental challenge for others.

    so, Kudos to you, Matt! You are a bigger man than most will ever be. And your journey through life is sure to leave footprints on the soul of everyone you meet. Bless you!
