Opening a wine bottle: No corkscrew, no problem (6 Photos)

: This is an old French way to open a wine bottle sans corkscrew. Put the bottle inside a shoe and hit it several times against the wall. Allegedly, the cork will come out on its own.

I admit I have yet to test this out for myself. So if somebody manages to open a wine bottle using this method report it back, please. Oh, and don’t knock a hole into your wall testing it out. Good luck.

One can do the same thing with the heel of their hand. Without scuffing the wall or removing a shoe. However there is good reason why we don't shake our wine. It buggers the taste horribly. I suppose it beats no wine but really not a good idea.
