What do you guys achieve by posting 'first' except for everyone hating you and you ruining the comments section?

      • _me

Haha, you just answered it. Trolls will be trolls. Some people love the attention, any attention. They think it's fun/funny/whatever. We'll probably never understand the firstards, or maybe when/if we did, we'd become just like them.

        • Not First

You're actually worse than the 'firstards' for answering them. You become part of what drives them, give them the attention they want. Just ignore them. Simple as that.

This guy needs to have his own holiday. He blows my mind with every new video i see

  • Brett

I say we push congress to allow the people of the United States to control up to 1% of our own taxes, to be able to send it to programs that we choose, such as NASA.

    • Joshua

By calling, voting, and writing to your senators, mayors, and governors you do that. It's not that hard.

Neil is proving once again why he's one of my favorite people.

  • Ryan

Why does he have to make everything political. The programs that came out of the 70's like the EPA did nothing but put government into peoples private property. And, mr. Degrasse, unless u like sharia law, u better be damned proud of our borders, because they protect us from every other failed countries ideology of kensian/socialism. I'll keep my borders and liberty and u can keep ur EPA and "clean water". Nice try

    • Mark

Socialism, It's working in Norway much better than what Capitalism is in the USA.

      • Jammy

That's just a dumb comment Mark. Because as we are all aware everyone looks to Norway for their leadership in…..right…well they do have a pretty good ski team.

      • Nickincollege

Norwegians are all the same, this makes it sustainable. We are too diverse for it to work.

    • Joshua

That's Doctor Neil DeGrasse Tyson to you sir. Now if I may ask, how educated are you?

      • sadman

We need credentials to ask questions? I worked on the CO2 satellite for NASA in 2005-06 and saw the CO2 data that was to be collected while we were still working on the flight optic. The data was fabricated to do a presentation for congress to push the CO2 (global warming) agenda, because according to the project manager, "The data is just a formality." NASA is politics first and science second.

        • https://www.facebook.com/EdHopkins1 Edward Hopkins

You lie. The politicians fabricate the data to DENY global warming. I bet you voted for Bush twice. Tell me I'm wrong.

    • http://www.facebook.com/nathan.carey Nathan Carey

Ryan – with you on the turning it into politics point. In all honesty – the EPA and Clean Air act have actually hurt the cause of NASA. Because they are some so obsessed with saving the earth, they spur the development of this country and its people. NASA's budget has continually been downgraded since the 60's and that is solely because the liberals in this country are moving its funding towards social programs to save the people.

    • Poke4Life

He's not talking about getting rid of the borders, you ass-hat! He's talking about looking at the big picture, and seeing this blue ball for the planet of life that it is.

      • Levian

Ass-hat, now that is a word that's definitely underused!

    • stabeezy

Aww poor Ryan. Proud of our borders? You really missed the whole point didn't you. It's about the big picture, the grander scale. That none of us are special, we are all part of the same tiny blue dot. And if we can't work together for a better future, there isn't a future. For any of us. That doesn't mean the rich white people get to survive and the poor people don't. It means NONE of us will make it if we continue to not look past the ends of our noses. Everyone spends so much time being hyper partisan, that no one sees the dangers of being short sited. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and then without progress, we will collapse in on our selves. Every great civilization rises and falls from power. And now that we have chosen the closed minded path, we are beginning our downfall.

Cheers, and good luck with that. Can we get Dr. Tyson into some position of power, because damn does that man get it.

    • ButterTuna

Ryan, you're obviously an ignorant dumbass and you missed the point.

    • Preston

Ryan, you sir, are an idiot. You managed to COMPLETELY MISSED HIS ENTIRE POINT Let alone the "Sub point" that you're complaining about. Please stop spewing your bullshit all over the chive.

  • Larry

Ryan, you're an idiot. This man is the Carl Sagan of our time, and you are too stupid to see the point he is making.
He, as well as Sagan, so eloquently stated what a good government could and should do.

    OK…. Here we go………..

    • https://www.facebook.com/GregPickering Greg Pickering

Where we going? 😉 No, but you are right. Ryan is a boob. He misses the point that NDT tries to make. The idea is that with a respect for the planet itself the need to have borders minimizes with a universal goal. At the threat of sounding stupid I actually refer to the show Star Trek. In that time people no longer work for money but the betterment of humanity itself. The planet is also seen as a whole, not divided. It is no longer USA vs N. Korea or whatever, it is Earth Vs _____ . I know that a Star Trek reference definitely does not bode well as an argument stand point, but a point is a point no matter what.

I think that all Chivers should sign the petition…

  • http://twitter.com/BradDuncan31 @BradDuncan31

The good Doctor always gives me chills when he speaks. He is an inspiring figure, and it's sad to see his voice being drowned out by all the uneducated, uninspired, and unimaginitive who have access to a keyboard. People who wouldn't have bothered to raise their voice ten years ago, can word-vomit a tweet while they sit at the drive-thru, and sadly, there are so many of them that they have an impact on the global community. But we Chivers can have an impact as well. I would love to see the Chive champion a drive to raise awareness, and make us all dreamers again. Perhaps starting with a Neil fuckin' Tyson t-shirt? that is all.

    • Surgewhip

I second the Dr. Neil Fuckin Tyson t-shirt. All those in favor, say aye!

      • Evil Dung Beetle

      • NFT for President!

    • stabeezy

I love that idea, I would wear a Dr. Neil Degrasse Fuckin Tyson shirt every day..

    • bdc

I would absolutely wear a neil fucking tyson shirt. I hate to say it, maybe just as much as my bfm shirt. But words like these are the reason I became an engineer….

  • Kyle

Sign the petition guys, at Penny4nasa.org

The Chive can make that petition blow up.

  • Dan

    Neil Degrasse Tyson shirt please

  • Steve O'Flannigan

I bet if the chivers rallied they could restart NASA.

    • truant

we got a quarter of a freakin' million dollars for one (deserving) vet in under a week. i'm pretty sure we can turn that energy into helping out NASA too…because it IS an investment, and it's one that benefits everyone.

      • bbbren

        so lets do it

  • Sam

Tyson is an amazing speaker. Seeing Elon Musk and Space X finally launch their new rocket after a couple months of setbacks is awesome. Even if NASA can't get to space its good to see we have bright young minds who are passionate enough to do it for NASA.

  • http://hallucinatingmartyr.wordpress.com hallucinatingmartyr

    Reblogged this on hallucinatingmartyr.

  • Jammy

What a travesty that NASA is not funded but yet the government longs for people to be dependent on it through it's vast entitlement programs. It's hard not separate the politics here but I think the graph is telling. Somehow what rallied us all with dreams of what was out in space, what we could achieve, where we could go to next, has been squashed. Yet the programs that limit dreams, that encourage dependence and mediocrity are fully funded (at least on paper).

      True story.

  • Leddy420

Now if only we could apply this aspect of discovery to all facets of life, instead of just space.
