If there is anything that can be described as "nothing", it is this life on earth, not the afterlife. Our time on earth is here and gone like a speck of dust in the eternal hour glass of time. But in Christ, we as Christians know that at the end of this life is an eternity of TRUE living. At the end of this life there is an eternal life in heaven praising the God who created all the things man is too inept to understand or explain. This monologue is a vain and hollow attempt by a very finite man to explain a very infinite universe and existence that is simply unexplainable and unknowable to our simple minds. But God smiles down and loves him anyway despite his arrogance and discontent, just like he does me in all my sin and you in all of yours. I pray everyday that you and people like this Alan Watts find the forgiveness, salvation, and true joy that I have found in a relationship with the God who made our everything and still chose to love us individually. Happiness is slippery and fleeting, but joy is forever.

Faith is cute. I don't think Alan Watts needs your prayers but I'm sure he appreciates the sentiment regardless.

Non-christians are always condescending towards Christians as though we are simple minded or ignorant and just accept the Bible because we are too stupid to think for ourselves. But what those people don't know is that we perceive people like you and Mr. Watts with pity and broken hearts; we see you as infants whose eyes have not been opened yet. Think of how silly Alan Watts' words sound to the creator of the universe, the very God that breathed life into Mr. Watts, knows the numbers of hairs on his head, and knows the very thoughts he is going to think 10 years from now. Your life cannot be complete and meaningful until you have what we have and we want to share it with you, but you are too closed minded to accept it. It is possible to have faith AND intelligence.

Funny how it's always people in Faith trying to jam their ideas down your throat. People with common sense, logic, and reason pity you for not opening your eyes. You can't have faith and intelligence because it would contradict each other. You need ignorance to have faith or it does not work.

You cannot attack Watts' beliefs based on what you think you know from a 5 minute video. He is not an atheist nor an agnostic.

This cryptic video doesn't do his talks justice. And before you assume that he doesn't understand Christianity, open your mind and do some research. The man knows more about Christianity than you do and would probably contend that your religion is not what Jesus had in mind.

You don't need to convert, but at least give the guy some respect before you spout off about how stupid he is.

He's simply swapping the consensus definitions of the opposing terms nothing and everything. If I swap the accepted definitions of any two opposing words, like up and down, in and out or dark and light, will I be considered enlightened? Perhaps to be confused is really to be enlightened and vice versa, ad infinitum, ad nauseam.

Nothing means no thing. If there is something- some thing, ANY thing- in your nothing, then it never really was nothing.

There really isn't any such thing as 'nothing' because 'nothing' it can be conceptualized as an idea, which means that it is something, so it can't be nothing.
