      • hakai20

Basically a discount grocery store. Can buy an entire cart full of groceries for $50.

And there's one in Quincy, Illinois. About a mile and a half from my house.

    • canada

i would just like to say 1) this guy is an idiot cause these places are obviously everywhere in the states 2) to everyone who keeps saying it cannot possibly be in england, we have right hand drive imports here and most likely they have some left hand drive imports there 3) dont diss the chive because you live in the fattest country in the world and dont be ashamed of it either it is what it is mofuka

      • Coldzilla

        2) yes there are right hand drives here in Canada and one would guess the UK but considering the %s chances are its from the US.

    • Coldzilla

Perhaps you didnt notice the steering wheel is on the left hand side of the vehicle Jay?

    • Dick Salad

Aldi is in America as well…

      • Dr_StrangePants

        never seen one

        • Austin Anderson

        • Just me

          Sumter, South Carolina has one.

    • Red

Aldi is all over the South…besides if it was England the driver would be on the other side of the car!

      • Lil John

Yep… ll over the south and southeast (but not Florida, I don't think) and yes… if it was England, they'd be on the other side. Good eye!

        • LandSurfer

Yes, they ate in florida too, I know of at least one in orlando.

        • Random

Bunch of them in Lakeland, FL

    • femtrooper

We have aldis too. Ive got 3 near me alone.

    • Josh

Um there is an Aldi's in Bennington, Vermont…..

      • Justin

I drive by that place all the time…can't say i've ever been inside though…

    • Anjin-San

steering wheel on the left side of the car…

    • st33

      Total Fail Jay.

    • Guest

Driver in the left side of the car that means not England, sorry Jay, nice try and mission accomplished if you're trying I sound like an arrogant know-it-all who is actually very ignorant.

    • CLM

actually there 1,140 Aldis in the US. And Aldi's originally a German store, and they have stores across most of Europe, so this isn't necessarily England.

    • Death

There u going just proving this whole section right!!! Aldi's are in the USA too!!! Stupid needs to stop its killing America !!!!!!!!!

    • Hooka

I live in Ohio. There is an Aldi 2 miles from my house

    • Kristof Kempenaers

Nice try, but in England the steering wheel is at the right side of the car.

    • Chiver in KC

In addition to the other replies, the sign underneath is for "The Medicine Shoppe", which according to their website has "locations across the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Indonesia, and the Middle East."

    • Richard

Thar be Aldi's everywhere too! Welcome to searching using the Interwebz, my name is Richard, I'll be taking you through my little Spiel here. As you can see, Jay is a Scorpio, likes like walks on the beach, and will soon get hit with a tack hammer on the head because he is a retard.

    • Andre Soto

Yup, you're american alright. Nice try at sounding smart.

      • Lunch_Box

Yup, your a douche. Next time try to sound less douche like.

    • coocoocuchoo

      First off, Im English.
Second, why is there always a snobby English cunt trying to be smart or trying to put England in the lime light on every fucking post on every fucking website. I bet he's a southern fairy!

      • wombat86

I'm Australian, and we often have the same problem…

    • Kristi

4 next to me in Upstate Ny.

    • kmfkt

    • Drake Friedman

      Have them in Wisco

      • Bob

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but I think there may be an Aldi in America. Also, I don't know if you noticed, but the driver's side is on the left. That means there is no way this photo was taken in England. Also, redundant comment is redundant.

    • bobbie

i live in north carolina and have an Aldi up the road from me.

    • Jeb

      1) Aldi is German
      2) There's Aldi in the US
      3) You fail.

      • Koont

We have no Aldis in Washington. I wish we had Aldis, but I don't know why.

    • Lunch_Box

If it makes you feel better Jay, I've never seen an Aldi in Louisville, Kentucky. Doesn't mean there isn't any in Kentucky, but I've never seen one.

      • Perdurabo0

There are 4 Aldi stores in Louisville…

        • Lunch_Box

Good to know, guess I've just never been in the areas where they're at.

    • Anon

We have Aldi's here in Arkansas. You don't get much more 'Merican than Arkansas. Hell that guy probably lives here!

    • Perdurabo0

Since Aldi is a German company, your logic is a bit flawed…

    • mmmmhmmm

we r very prowd of owr Audis round here yuh, cant u see Merica likes food stores?

    • Marcusbrooks

The reason you didn't know Aldi was in America
      Is your a dumbass

    • matt

The car is left hand drive. In England its right!!

  • Rufio

#4 pretty much sums it up.

    • msee

Shocking. Just shocking. They actually let dudes marry each other?

    • techno_viking

Not really. I'm sure most states just don't think enough of it to actually make it a law. Pretty sure there aren't many horse fuckers out there. If any at all…

      • Brutal_Deluxe

There certainly aren't any horse fuckers where I'm at. Those videos are clearly fakes. And there's no proof it was me; you can't even see my face. I am an upstanding citizen who enjoys the company of women.

        • wdh

wait so, are you a horse? Mr. Ed, is that you?

    • Tweet This

It's also legal to have sex with a garbage disposer or sleep on a cactus or wipe your ass with a broken bottle. Those have about as much to do with gay marriage as the horse sex. Just because there's no law against it doesn't mean you should do it. Spencer's tweet is asinine.

      • Ned_Plimpton

I wish I could thumbs you up several times.

Nice throwing in another unnecessary gay rights pic to cause hateful arguing, Chive… How bout a same sex couples adoption post next?

      • TheItalian

You are my hero. You are the man. You win the Internet via logic!

      • Woop

Astute observation on the logical fallacy but the point, however weak that he is attempting to make I believe is: Americans passionately and inconsistently hate things that don't impact their lives. I'm giving him more credit that due but I believe that's what he trying to say.

        • Tweet This

The problem is that many of us are growing weary of having to see, hear and read about gay marriage, every time we look at a website, newspaper, magazine or TV. We don't need some idiotic comparison of two unrelated statistics in a lame attempt at a sardonic but oh-so-witty comment that basically calls anyone who doesn't approve of gay marriage a horse-fucker. He gets no credit from me.

          • Kraken

Tweet This: You're bang on. I'm counting on you to call out the next bullshit.

          • imnotabaseballfan

anyone who doesnt agree with gay marriage is a horsefucker except me of course i would not fuck a horse of course hahahahah

            • MrFumbles

              What about Sarah Jessica Parker?

    • Livin' Legend

I think I'd be more worried about the states that find horse fucking to be such a problem that they had to make a law against it…

    • Eric Walker

That's actually a pretty bad comparison. Gay marriage is legal in 6 states, but marriage to a horse is legal in 0 states would be a better comparison.

Or Gay sex is legal in 50 states, and having sex with a horse is legal in 23 states is a better comparison.

You can't compare legal sex to legal marriage.

      • BigPhil6833

What's this? Perfect logic? I'm shocked.

Although I think gay marriage should be totally legal, supporters need to realize that they are trying to change a norm and there are going to be people out there that don't agree with you. I love that pro gay people say that everyone should be free to feel how they want to feel, and then throw an absolute shit fit when someone says they don't agree with gay marriage.

Also, I think it should be legal to marry horse.

  • babyfartmagizax

  • DERP

#1 embarressed tp be american somedays…… fat, lazy and stupid people…. quit eating so much …..

    • Embarrassed*

You might want to be embarrassed because you're one of those people..

    • American

You should be "embarrassed" of yourself, dumb ass. And "American" is a proper noun and should always be capitalized — even when making an over-broad, disparaging remark.

    • ColaChiver

Ya'll get off that man's nuts, he's right in a way, I just think he worded it wrong. We are all damn proud to be American's and we can take the jokes and what not and I am not embarrassed becuase of the fat people, I am embarrassed for them. Just sad to see someone live like that and not care. And in turn, it puts off the stereotype of all Americans being fat which we know isn't true, but what is true is that per capita we have the fattest bastards on this planet.

To outweight that so to speak we have awesome boobs, steaks, and real football….not that field fairy communist shit. MERICA!

      • Anon

Actually the citizens in Qatar are the fattest in the world. I do agree with you how disgusting it is to be that fat and not care though; being willfully ignorant about how to responsibly care for your own body with everything we know now is shameful.

      • ColaChiver

Americans* …dunno why I put the apostrophe in there.

      • Adam

      • HERP

Yep , when 2/3 of Americans are clinically overweight and 1/3 are clinically obese, that means the MAJORITY of America is FAT…… And clinical problems from all that fat are taking tons and tons of americas healthcare dollars to deal with all the issues of taking care of all the FATTIES…..

        • Patches

Yes but the standard for classifying whether someone is overweight or obese is the BMI, which looks strictly at height and weight. Every UFC fighter, body builder, and probably professional athlete would be considered overweight or obese because they weigh a lot for their height due to muscle. BMI does NOT consider body fat percentage, bone structure, muscle mass, etc. A man 5'10 and 175lbs is considered overweight by the BMI.
I'm not saying there aren't a lot of overweight folks out there – but I am saying that the current benchmark is very misleading and greatly overstates the "epidemic" of obesity.

          • fritodog

I respectfully disagree. I lived abroad for 6 years and when I came back I was shocked, at not only how fat people are, but also at the amount of fat people everywhere. If you walk down the street there are way more fat people none fat people, I've counted before. Also, the measure for fat has changed. Now someone who was considered fat 40 yrs ago is regular. Muffin tops have become a norm now and are seen as regular. I'm 5'10" and weigh 150 lbs, unless you're working out 4 times a week, the average 5'10" person weighing 175 lbs is at least a little fat.

            • LawnGuyLand

But you have to admit at that height and weight, you have almost no muscle mass. I weighed 175 @ 5' 7" in high school and I was ripped. To weigh 140 where the BMI says i should, I woould have to lose muscle mass.

            • passwordistaco

Well since you did a head count fritodog I guess we can call it a fact the fat outweigh the normal. Notice I didn't say skinny which you obviously are. I'm 5'9" 175 and have a 32" waist, haven't hit a gym in 5 years. Am I fat?

You're also grossly mistaken about the changing perceptions, you've actually got it completely backwards. Marilyn Monroe would be considered FAT today, as opposed to Curly from the stooges being considered regular. Just because you see a muffin top doesn't make it regular, right, or normal! Hell you're the problem, sorry went on a rant but you basically called me fat.

    • robzombie9999

I am an Australian and people get fat here too but I don't understand why Americans have to complain about it so much. I'm not fat but I like chubby girls and I think just let people do what they want to as long as they aren't annoying you

      • Anon

Yeeeah more power to the chubby chasers!! Just don't let your friends catch you with them ;-)

      • Woop

Mate, us Aussies arent that great either and while I agree that we should live and let live, it gets to a point when it's gluttony not just overindulgence. Gluttony is not good for any society, not just theirs. Let's not forget they are killing themselves but I can't comment on that since its their choice.

      • Lou

THe problem is is that their FAT related health problems eat up more health care money than almost any other condition in the USA… Hypertension, heart related issues, fat related diabetes etc. etc…. So their FAT arses riding around on motorized scooters does effect averyone…

        • robzombie9999

Haters will hate but I think that if all the fat people disappeared it would make almost no difference to the US economy. Paying for the military to try to bring peace to the world is a much bigger expense and drinking and smoking are also very expensive but that seems to go under your radar. Also bieng fit is much more important than being thin

    • Meep

So South America is not considered as "American"? Interesting….

      • ColaChiver

Pretty sure when someone from England for example says American… they are not talking about you Paco. Everyone knows what is meant when someone says American.

      • robzombie9999

Meep that's like saying a Canadian is American just because you are in the same continent. To me being an Aussie the US is completely seperate to the rest of the American continent

OK I could see why you may watch Friends with it muted (Jennifer Aniston, Courteny Cox) but why in hell would you watch 2 1/2 men muted? Granted there were hot women on there from time to time but mostly it was Sheen, Cryer and the kid.

The German Ludendorf offensives of 1918 were a desperate move on the part of Germany that had been perfectly content to play a defensive game since 1914. Ludendorf, Hindenberg and the Kaiser all backed the offensives, which succeeded initially then ended up collapsing and costing Germany the war. ALL THREE took this risk because they knew that the monthly arrival of the Americans meant that every day that passed made it less and less likely for Germany to win. While the US may have only been there for a little over a year, the presence of US forces turned the tide in that war, and were the major force behind the previously anemic and bled-out Allies success in the post Ludendorf counteroffensives.

History books are full of info! Don't take my word for it, you ungrateful, museum-grade idiot. Our fathers went over there TWICE and died to save you animals from yourselves and I am sick of your revisionist, self-satisfied, historically ignorant BS.

          • Truth

Heres a few facts I happen to know about the British war effort.
During the battle of Britain an outnumebred RAF fought back the Lufftewaffe which was, at the time the world largest airforce. This halted Hitler's plans to invade Britain and he chose to turn East towards Russia instead, agreed by all to be his single worst decision. This also enabled a still free Britain to be used by the allied forces (Including the US) as a staging ground for the buildup to and eventual invasion of Europe. The British had also served the Germans their first major defeat in a thatre of war (The deserts of North Africa) which were then used as the launchpoint for the allied invasion of central Europe. The British had captured the enigma machine and at Bletchley Park broken the German codes said to have shortened the war by at least three years. (During this work at Bletchley in 1943 Englishman Tommy Flowers created the worlds first electronic computer 'The Colossus')
All this before the US had even entered the war.

          • Truth

You are so ignorant to the truth of history I actually feel embarassed for your your fellow countryman, you make a 'read a history book' comment without any seeming knowledge of the historical facts. First of all the US was so underprepared for WW1 that they had to lease or buy the majority of their weaponry/equipment from the French. Secondly during WW2 your 'fathers' didn't die to save Europe they joined the war to combat a threat to their own country and as for the 'animals commrent you know full well that the US murder/violence rate is far higher than any European country. The reason many people hate Americans like you is that you seem to think that when the US finally joined the war everyone else just sat back and watched from the sidelines, this shockingly retarded viewpoint is not only historically inaccurate but it defiles the memory and sacrifice of those who fought and died from a multiple of allied nations.

          • America

            Thank you Bill.

          • ReadingforSuckers

You're absolutely right! We'll ignore the three years of sacrifices made by the Allies fighting the war. While were at it, we'll throw out the 1917 Battle of Arras which was a devastating loss for the Germans and fought by the British and Canadians that suffered countless casualties. I'm clearly the revisionist. If you took all that from my one sentence then I can't even defend myself. I have family who served in these wars, same as you. It's much more disrepectful to disregard their sacrifices with an idea that you won the war all on your own. My comment wasn't a slight to Americans, it was an acknowledgment to all the men and women who died in the war.

And, I'd rather be museum grade idiot than a history tv watching, self-righteous douche bag such as your self. Last I checked they hold a vast majority of the worlds knowledge. Please refrain from commenting while on your period. If you must comment, try to control your hormones before you pull your tampon out and spew your bullshit on the internet.

            • Lunch_Box

You typed the following, "My comment wasn't a slight to Americans, it was an acknowledgment to all the men and women who died in the war." after being called out for your condescending comment of "Thanks for showing up for the one year in WW1" and then you try to act innocent, that was a slight and you know it.

I like how the replies to this focus on debating the impact of US forces during previous global wars rather than calling into question the flawed logic which leads one to believe "good at war = can't be a dumbass."

      • Albert Einstein

yeaaaah, you can thank me(a non-american) for that second one……

    #8 He's good for sure!

  • Aaron

Soooo is Chive proud to be a US based company orrrrr? I feel conflicted about this post. I'm all for satire and a joke, but on Flag Day it seems a bit off color. I know I will get reamed by all the younger kids, but older guys, any input here?

    • Mr Man

Lighten up, dude, just have a laugh at the last days of your empire….

    • @bunkerpunkk

Unfortunately the rest of the world seems to view us as a destructive, self-obsessed, morbidly obese monster (only partially true). Laughing, crying, or getting defensive won't do us any good. We need a fucking wake up call, a serious one, to kick this country into high gear on both self-pride and the economy. At the end of the day though, I could not be more fucking proud to be American.

Seriously though, fucking fats are everywhere, so are McDonalds. No matter what country you live in, if you are fat as fuck, please be less fat and don't end up on theChive's "Merica" post.

      • Adam

And speaking of McDonalds…went on a vacation last year to North Carolina…From that stretch of interstate which was about a little over 500 miles…my buddy counted 47. almost averaging 1 per 10 miles…it's a bit too much

        • passwordistaco

When I was a kid it was Special to go to McDonald's, I mean like report card day or after a big game we won special. Of course my mother cooked, there's a novel idea.

      • Loadedcarp

"if you are fat as fuck, please be less fat"
that made me laugh. I'm going to use that….

    • Joshua Searcy

Not just flag day. Today is the army's birthday. 237 years strong.

      • nate

between the 10 miler and the corps run i've run over 14 miles for the bday. i'm going to mcdonalds. not really.

    • Dr_Batman

Well acknowledging the fact that America is full of Tubby Lumpkins doesn't mean they're not proud to be American. I'm proud to live in America, but an almost 30% obesity rate is ridiculous.

If you go by BMI, for me to be "normal", I would have to be so skinny that, while I wouldn't look like an Auschwitz resident, it would be fairly close. I don't think I even -could- get down to that weight, thanks to having shoulders and very big legs (While everyone in the weight room did bench, I did squats since my bench sucked).

I graduated HS at 5'11/195. That puts me in the "fatty" category. Sorry, but at that point in time I was running 5-8 miles per day, playing basketball every day, 4.9 40, squatting over 400 and could almost dunk. But going by BMI alone, you'd think I should have been strapped to a chair like that guy in Se7en and fed nothing but oatmeal and fruit.

Another way to look at it: Tim Tebow is 6'3/250. By BMI standards he's a total fatty. And while pro athletes don't make up a large cross section of America, the fact still remains that you do have a lot of people who are fit enough to be perfectly healthy, but due to some arbitrary number system they're lumped in with the people who basically subsist off nothing but McD's and those microwave gas station hamburgers.

Are a lot of Americans, including myself, overweight? Yup. But remember that most of this is coming from the press, using BS statistics. This is NO different than any other hot-button topic that they love to get their hands on to pull in ratings money.

        • Cal1

Denial is what that is, BMI I'm normal, and Im not skinny or fat, just normal.

          • Brutal_Deluxe

I think his point is that BMI is a terrible indication of whether or not an individual should be considered obese. Using this metric, individuals with more than an average amount of muscle but lower body fat are categorized in the same way as individuals with more than enough fat to attract the attention of local whaling vessels.

          • Dr. Love

You are free to keep using a technique that was developed in the 1840's if that makes you feel better. Obviously BMI is idiotic.

        • jimbozo

          Too much. Didn't read it.

        • LuketheTerrible

forget the formula and just look around. we are responsible for who and what we are. I dont need the press to tell me there are too many obese people. our affluence is our weakness.

    • TheBenjamin

Couldn't agree more. It probably wouldn't take more than a few minutes to research and make an entire post about the good things in America. Or since it's Flag Day, maybe they shouldn't post a few offensive stereotypes about an incredibly diverse nation of 300 million+ people.

      • TheItalian

Agreed. The Chive isn't known for their good taste to begin with… but given the date today this is especially off. I keep coming here less and less as time goes by, I used to be all day every day, then once or twice a day, then once a week or so. I suppose now I can just do every few months and be done with it. Sigh.

        • Bob

Well as Carlin said, pride should be reserved for something you accomplish. I'm happy to be American, but we shouldn't be proud to be American until we do something to deserve it.

          • TheBenjamin

            I'm a part of this:
I think that's pretty cool. How about you Bob?

          • Real American

If you don't think we have done anything as a country to be proud of then I feel very sorry for you. Maybe you should think about leaving America since that would help the country most.

        • Kzo

Yeah that's why maybe you missed the Taylor Morris post…

    • Old Guy

I doubt they know it's Flag Day or the Army's birthday. Just not important to a lot of people.

  • Brandon Beardslee

#7 I must admit, the drunken ingenuity there is flawless. Party on, my friend.

Alcoholic ketchup? Or were you referring to #8?

  • Chris

    #26 solid knife skills ;)

  • fail

    You know, or #8
