Holy Christ!!! My family owned that VCR when I was a kid. I remember that thing costing close to a thousand bucks. Also, the remote control had only 3 buttons (rewind, fast-forward & pause) & it was physically attached to the VCR with a long cord.

#31 I remember getting my first 14.4k modem, I was flying!
I even feel a little nostalgic for the sound of the modem connecting.

    • Turrebo

My first modem was an external 1200 baud Tornado (if I remember correctly). It was connected to an IBM 286 (12 MHz!).

14k4 modems were indeed the bee's knees. This was the fastest way of data transfer possible over a copper wire. It was technically impossible to get any faster, or so we were told.

Then came 28k8, 33k6 and 56k. And after that ADSL.

I miss those 1200 baud modems… You really had to choose carefully what you wanted to download because it would take the best part of forever to get it.
