25 17

Based on a Nielsen survey of around 1000 Americans, these were the most watched and most memorable moments to air on television. I think it’s missing some stuff. What do you think?

this is a sad day – to know that a greater percentage of the population today was more enthralled with the death of Whitney Houston than to see and hear the fall of the USSR – an entity that drove our parents to hide under desks throughout their childhood. I guess they were listening to Whitney while they were hiding?

9/11 happened in 2001, not 2011. Good job, America.

What about the earthquake and the following tsunami that hit the pacific ocean dec 26:th 2004? I feel that hits so much higher then most of these things.. OJ Simpson? Ah well, american study…

  • TylerDurdenUMD

What a bunch of bullshit. In no particular order:
OJ chase, OJ verdict, JFK announcement, JFK funeral, Jack Ruby assassination, MLK death announcement, lunar landing, Challenger explosion, Reagan's speech re: Challenger, Reagan's speech re: Iran/Contra, Columbia disaster, GWB's Columbia speech, when 2nd tower was hit while newscasters were in mid-speech, Pete Rose breaking the all time hit record, Berlin Wall coming down, standing up to the tank at Tianemen Square, "I am not a crook", Waco, Rodney King, LA Riots.

    Houston over Kennedy?

Time to re-open the extermination camps

  • Train

It's definitely missing some important things, and also has some ridiculous things in it, the funeral of JFK vs Whitney Houston dying. I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. A drug addict singer vs an incredibly influential, tragically assassinated President of the US.

    Friends finale!

  • Tron

This list makes us look stupid, anything to do with a trial or celebrity shouldn't be on there.

  • Hooka

Lost me at Whitney Houston. That was so far from the top 20 historical moments in TV history it can't even see it. She was a crack head nothing more. It doesn't belong on this list

  • NVP

like everyone else has said, Houston and Casey shouldnt be on this list. I do agree with the OJ case being on this list.

  • fish

Alec, you weren't very smart when you put this together. How embarrassing. All that was
omitted as compared to what made the list? Next time, ask intelligent people of all ages, and don't go looking for them at the Beverly Mall. And fuck Neilsen ratings, go do it yourself. Try this again. Cuz you did it wrong!

  • Matt

I would agree…it's missing some things. Like many others, I'm also baffled that Whitney Houston was even on this list, let alone chronologically higher than JFK. Amazing…

  • mith

    Really?! Houston?! WTF?!

  • David LaBaff

Janet Jacksons tit falling out had more impact one me than Whitney Houston finally overdosing

  • Lee Steitz

What a horrible list! my morning boner was more important than whitney houston dying

    Virginia Tech shootings?

  • Seth_Michaels

The fact that Whitney Houston's death is a part of this list makes me sick. That probably wasn't one of the top 50 events that took place that YEAR!

    The rest of them…seems legit.

  • Greg

They got the year wrong for Sept. 11th.

  • Johnny
