I always thought Michael Keaton brilliantly portrayed the role of Batman.

    • andy

he was certianly the best of the 'old' ones. when i saw nickleson portray the joker i thought that charactor would never be topped. wrong.

      • Riley Gibbons

comparing the two is just stupid. they're two completely different portrayals of the joker.

        • andy

thanks for calling me stupid, riley baggins. but i'll just kcco.

          • Dalshepsut

Yea you idiot, comparing one actors portrayal of the joker to another actors portrayal of the same character has to be the dumbest thing ive ever heard, thats like comparing apples to apples!
And i think mark hamil does a kickass job as the joker's voice in all the cartoons and games hes done.

    • KyleGamgee

I never believed Keaton as Batman. I did like him as Bruce Wayne though.

I preferred Val Kilmer as a good Bruce Wayne and a good Batman.

      • Scodeling

yea, i can see what your sayinhg, kyle.

    • Trav1121

I always found Keaton to be the best mix as Bruce and Batman. Bale tries waaaaay to hard to make his voice 'gravelly', which takes the focus away from the character. Kilmer was just ok in both roles. Clooney… shouldn't have happened.

Posts like this really highlight the fact that the "luminate" icon really needs to be moved. I suggest placing it out of the way next to the picture numbers rather than on the picture itself.

    • Fred Pants

I agree. It blocks some of the text.

    • Dantheloser

Agreed. It's annoying as fuck on other pictures as well, but here it was actually a problem.

    • Giggity

I agree. Was about to comment myself then I saw others we're annoyed as well. Can't read some of the text…….

    • Bender

I feel lost. What luminate text?

      • JImmyB

I'm with you. I have no idea what they are talking about. I thought it was because I use an adblocker. My guess is theChive already fixed it?

        • hello please

The little green and white icon in the bottom left of each picture, it's a social media "share" button. Still there as of 9am CDT.

        • passwordistaco

must be another "smart" phone thing

    • BuffaloJustSayin

Thank you. I can't read any of the shit in the lower left of these.

    • PopeyesChicken

It's not a smart phone thing. I'm on a Windows machine, and it is right in the way of the text I'm trying to read. I'm about to luminate an ass whooping on someone.

  • Trav1121

#2 Keanu Reeves? Goddamn! These are the fine lines between a good Batman movie, like the Nolan version and some absolute shit like Bat Nipples And Robin. Even the consideration makes my stomache turn…

    • McLovin

      ya, because The Matrix sucked…

      • Trav1121

The Matrix, Speed and Bill & Ted were his best movies, but, let's be honest, they were all Keanu Reeves playing Keanu Reeves. His portrayal of an already existing character would have been awful. Ever seen Constantine? That was Keanu Reeves playing Keanu Reeves pretending to play the character of John Constantine (Hellblazer) and it was so very bad…

  • bananaflapjacks

    first yall

  • I don't know

#3, and #11 huh that's weird because raz appears basically the same in the comics with his attempts to "cleanse the world" and batmans backstory has always included him losing his parents and going away for training and all that. But apparently the Nolan brothers pulled it out of their ass and not just out of cannon.

    • NHale

Thank you. Both these characters were created in the comic just as they are in the movie personality wise. I hope this was the misinformed author of this "story" that decided Nolan came up with these character bios, because if Nolan actually claims to have "designed" them, he's a tool, and I just lost all respect for him.

    • dashete

I rate it's more so the story seems to have a broad influence. Whenever you ask artist what inspired them, they can't help but be pretentious about it.
It be way too simple if Nolan had just said: "Uhm… the comic ?"

      • I don't know

At least it would be the truth.

    • clint h

hate to completely geek out her but i must call "bullshit" on the roosevelt thing. and about the bin laden thing, ras has been around as a character since the 70's and is pretty exactly portrayed n the movie as he has been in the comic. what they really didnt explore was his use of the lazarus pits which will revitalize or rebirth his body when either dead or near-dead. but each time he used it he would become a little more insane. so if they were baesd on each other i geuss we can look forward to bin ladens resurrection soon. oh, and he's gonna b alittle bit crazier this time. so we got that to look forward to…..

    • http://twitter.com/McBeastie666 @McBeastie666

I think he's just stating that he used "real world" inspirations for scripting his reboot. Sure, the stories are in the comics, but relating them to real life is something different. Hence, he picked some real life examples to aid the actors in finding their motivations.

#3 is bullshit. First, Jonathan Nolan had very little, if anything, to do with Batman Begins. The story and screenplay for Batman Begins was entirely David Goyer and Chris Nolan. Jonathan did the screenplay work for Dark Knight and Dark Knight rises. Second, I've never seen a statement like that appear from Jonathan Nolan, as the Nolans have been very careful not to state that the films make any particular political statements (any that the audience glean from the material are their own interpretation and never confirmed by the Nolans), and, third, as many have pointed out, Ra's' portrayal in this film is pretty much how he is in the comics, except that, in the comics, he was classically portrayed as an eco-terrorist rather than crime-fighter.

The Roosevelt one IS fact, though not quite how it's stated above. In one of the supplemental documentaries for The Dark Knight, Nolan stated that the key to understanding Batman was likening him to Teddy Roosevelt for the reasons listed above.

A few of the other things posted are also just rumors that were repeated so many times that people have come to accept them as fact. Like how it's doubtful Marylin Manson was ever even close to getting a role in the film outside of internet speculation and, maaaaybe, studio suggestion. Kind of like how it was rumored that Crispin Glover was close to being the Joker when, in all likelihood, Nolan never ever considered him.

Christian Bale = Fatman forever now

    #20 no. just no.

blackswanman instead of batman? no thanks

  • Llama of thrones

#19 Should have let him die…

    • Willie

Testament to how good the actor and writing is to inspire the kind of hate Joffrey inspires.

As it seems with all the really good villains, the actors that portray them are super nice guys. as Jack Gleeson is one of the cast and crew's favorite actors.

      • Jere

        one of my favs too.

  • Mr_Taco

I don't particularly care for Christian Bale, but his ability to transform for roles #17 is pure badassery.

    • drew

And a personal trainer or 3.

    • alcideissexy

      and steroids.

    • Urethra Franklin

      100 lbs. of Muscle? Unlikely.

      • gonzo

its much less than 100 lbs. we was way under weight. his batman build is similar to that in american psycho, so it was only about 30 lbs over his natural weight. and actors have the advantage of dieticians and personal trainers along with countless hours. its not healthy though, bad for the heart.

  • dashete

#9 Guy is super dedicated. He even keeps his character's accent when doing interviews and promotions for the film. And he tries to do a different accent in every film he's in.

    • Takingbackcider

Just don't get in his way when they're filming….

    • kale

Yeah if by "accent" you mean stupid effin annoying speech impediment! Listen for the lisp, you can't un-hear it!

      • mazzie

FYI -He is English. Take it you're not a fan.

        • dumb americans

          he's welsh, dumbass.

  • Takingbackcider

#1 That was a bullet dodged!

    • Malcolm H

This is a widely reported rumor, but it isn't true. Bale confirmed in 2008 that he never even auditioned or was considered for the part.

  • Jason

#11 Teddy Roosevelt was mostly in the North Dakota badlands not the Montana badlands.

    • fish

Teddy Roosevelt was the ultimate Badass. If it weren't for him, there would be no Yellowstone or Yosemite National Parks.

    • Aaaaa

      Beat me to it!

    • Yoselahonda

The asscrack of nowhere is still the asscrack of nowhere, no matter where it is. Especially in 1900 when just about everywhere west of Chicago was the asscrack of nowhere.

      • http://twitter.com/McBeastie666 @McBeastie666

        yeah, screw facts.

  • passwordistaco

#3, #16 Total Bullshit, that is all

    • http://www.facebook.com/ChristyLCombs Christina Combs

Agree BS on #3 but #16 is true the did film it in Iceland and the ice sheet thinned out shortly after filming.

      • passwordistaco

"The next day the lake thawed and all of the ice was gone" = Bullshit.

        • https://www.facebook.com/jordan.kenney1 Jordan Kenney

Nope. That thing with the lake really happened. It was thawing as they shot it even.

          • passwordistaco

I don't doubt the lake thawed. As a matter of fact I'm sure it did!

My problem with the statement is that cast and crew as well as equipment was supposedly on this lake for hours shooting this fight scene. Then in a single day 4 to 5 inches of ice just disappeared (it would have to be that thick to support people let alone equipment) . I've seen less ice take a lot longer to thaw in much warmer climates (and in lakes NOT being fed by a frigging glacier)

uugghh – shoulda stopped at "that is all"

            • http://twitter.com/McBeastie666 @McBeastie666

              yeah..you should've.

              • passwordistaco

I know but at that point I was all in. Still Bullshit! ok a little buzzed now lol.

  • moses

i have a man crush on Christian Bale!

  • Kong

the open luminate and close lumniate is pissing me off, cant read the words that's its covering up. now i'll never know what is being captioned.

  • sshuggi

#20 I wonder if Darren just didn't want to do the movie but felt like trolling Warner Bros?

  • Baba Booey

    Ohhhhh, goooood for you.

  • Big Poppa

#18 Shame the only part of The Dark Knight Rises to be filmed in Cardington was the scenes where Bane is freed mid air and the private jet is ripped to pieces.

  • -K-

#9 The character's name is always on the trailer, not the actor's name.

  • SolidusSnake420

#19 I wonder if he was a product of incest in Batman as well, his parents didn't seem to give a fuck about him.

  • FTW

Any chance we can get rid of those boxes in the bottom left corner….you know, covering the text. Move them to top right…nothing happens top right

  • cbt

Get that god damned luminate icon the hell off of the pictures!

  • Uplim

You know the best part about Tapiture? The way it always blocks the bottom left corner or a picture. Man do I love that. Such a sweet idea!
