I was just showing my buddy this video this morning, now you need to show the video that was insperation for the voice of Bane.
The Lurker
Sit down and listen to Nighthawks At The Diner, one of my favorite albums ever. Tom weaves a acoustic tapestry like no one else. Check out : http://youtu.be/0MUXDpYR6YE

The sound similarities are eerily similar. I kept expecting Tom Waits to announce that he was going to do a magic trick to the host.
Charlie Sheen
The man is a genius.
CubeMonkey
That's NUTS – perfectly the same… the voice and posture. Love seeing stuff like this – well done Bob-o
Alex
Willem Dafoe?

The interviewer is the late great MR DON LANE he made Aussie TV what it is today
Huh?
An obscure thing no one knows about?
Simon
You're getting mixed up with American Football.
Tony D
Loved The Don Lane show….!
Zarafraze
When he said "Entertainment" wow…
Also, I remeber this interview from way back. This is where I knew about the existence of Lord Buckley, good times….

–The 1979 Tom Watts interview with which Heath Ledger got his inspiration for the Joker–
Niño
Listen to "take it with me", you'll forgive him for his voice.
He was in Mystery Men as Dr. Heller and played Renfield in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Very cool….
Michael T
The interviewer is Don Lane, he came to Australia from the US in the 60's and never left!
tim
It's all an act…a very brilliant act. Tom Waits is greats!

watch this interview on letterman to get a better understanding of mr. waits today — and a better understanding of a host who knows his guests: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX1qpcDchD4
1979 was near the end of his "drinking era." many of the records he has released since getting sober in the early 80s verge on masterpiece and he is still putting out killer music today.
btw he wrote – jersey girl, downtown train, old 55 — and he won several million dollars from the frito lay company they released a commercial with a voice likeness of his that was a total rip-off (they asked waits to do the commercial and he chose not to).
finally good to see he's been using the HVAC joke since the 70s – he still drops it to this day.
BretW
Why does everyone think the host is a dick? He's making the best of a terrible interview.

Whatever, Heath Ledger. Tom Waits is the most attractive man in the world. (And this is one of my favorite interviews.)
fart waits
Tom Waits is the only actor to have played god and the devil
That's Don Lane interviewing him. He was an American expat in Australia, who was kind of like a Johnny Carson wannabe in Australia during the 70's-80's.
