good for normal people who drive normally on road…
Blinky
Instant Pacman.
Tim
Okay, not to sound like a poo-poo head, but it's not actually "invisible". It's basically a personal air bag that surrounds your head. And I'm not so sure about the device itself being more comfortable than a traditional helmet. It looks like you're trading in a helmet for a cervical collar. Neat idea, tho.
ush
If we could invent invisible things do you think a bike helmet would be the first item on the list? Did you come here expecting to see such a huge jump in technology only applied to a bike helmet?… you're an idiot
Kiki
You're not a poo-poo head, I was thinking the same thing. I guess it adds neck support too… I'll give it a 6/10
thatguy
Invisible? "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it does."
Epitomizer
Correction: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means"
There ya go. I'll get down voted, but one of my biggest pet peeves is misquoted movie lines.
torc111
now i have a link to send the a-holes who say "nice invisible helmet, whered you get it?" on youtube videos of people riding without a helmet
bob
What a shitty idea..
Dan
Just get a rooster and there will be order! I'm using that line! HA HA HA!
solrac zemog
sorry bob! Its actually a good idea. you must not be a rider. at least give them a little credit. when i ride, i sweat more with the helmet than without. i live in texas and its too damn hot here. you do the math.
https://www.facebook.com/mortenfriis Morten Friis
So adding a huge collar around your neck will help you cool off? Makes sense.
Someone
So you can use it once and then its another $300 or however much it ends up costing?
Niclas
Yes, fashion costs I guess…
Concerning the use once then toss is – you are aware that a bike helmet is generally only designed to withstand one crash and should not be reused?
Verbal_Kint
if you wreck with a standard helmet you're supposed to replace it as well. $300 is still less expensive then a trip to the ER and some brain surgery, and rehab.
mr foo
It's the same with regular helmets. Once you do crash you usually split the helmet rending it useless.
Jeff
But they only cost 30 bucks. If they can keep the cost down on the "invisible" one then if would be fine.
Tickler
You're right. I guess your life is only worth $30. I'll pay the $300 and live longer thanks.
Dd
When the $30 bucks saves your life as much as the $300, you're an idiot for spending the $300
TheJesus
Yeah, I mean why do people even bother with innovating!
BTME
$300 for the "invisible" Helmet??
Questions not answered: What is the life expectancy of the unit? Can the batteries be changed? Is there a self test for the sensors and onboard 'puter?
What happens when the damn thing fails to deploy?
I will stick to a $45 Bell and know that it is always there and I can see when it needs to be replaced.
nope
Cool except we left bikes for cars…
NotMe
Cars are so yesterday. Also, if they had hired a rooster – he would have done a better job managing the random side-tracking in the middle of this video.
AssHaterson
"Cars are so yesterday. Bikes are the future." Might just be the most ridiculous comment I have heard. Hippy bullshit.
Hunter_BZ
Have not left the U.S much have you? Have you at least left your county?
mellow
Could not agree MORE, I fuckin hate hippies and stupid foreign hipsters. I hope you lose all of your capital, ladies.
Bubba
Only in 'Merica
nope
Also… How much am I going to spend on this? When I could just go out and get a helmet that will also save my life for like 10-20 bucks?….
TPM50
What a fucking joke. So you strap this neck brace on and climb on a bike. Now you climb on a bike and off you go. Problem is you can't turn your head to see your suroundings. Squish your dead, fear not you can still have an open casket funeral cause that balloon will protect your face.
JRT
I meant to hit 'thumbs down'… I disagree with your post.
emu90
definitely didn't look that restrictive
https://www.facebook.com/cblaschitz Christian Blaschitz
would be great if the collar would save/support your neck too. this would be a clear advantage compared to a normal helmet
JackDiesel
I'm sorry hipster ladies but bikes aren't the future.
SmackyCakes
I'm sorry JackoffDickhead, but your urban situation is not the same at everyone else's. Bikes are indeed the future in many cities, especially outside the US.
Jeff
As they should be. The problem where i live in the suburbs, is getting to work on a bike means i need leave to super early and take a shower at work. That could be anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes.
SKEEBLER
Fuckin idiot bikes are from the past and are in the now and will be in the future just like every other motherfuckin thing other than what humans kill off dumb shit bitch!!!!
Jack, I agree, the a-holes who ride bikes downtown here are a bunch of dillweeds whose intelligence is as invisible as these helmets. I for one would rather have a helmet on then that thing around my neck, just hoping that it would work when I need it.
MonkeyMadness
Agreed.
Tina
Hmmm an airbag for a bike helmet. Interesting idea. Maybe if it can be built into a jersey so it doesn't look like a straight up neck brace.
Hank442
So my car doesn`t have "airbags", it has "invisible helmets"? p.s. Invisible helmets sounds like a brand of condoms
Littlet
Thats a good one – thinking that one myself….
shawn
can't believe they raised 10 million for this. it's going to cost probably triple the most expensive helmets, even if they provide some sort of replacement program for when it goes off you're s.o.l. for a few weeks until it comes in, and on top of it all what if I ride too "aggressive" and this thing pops off while I'm just riding around? neat idea I guess, doubt it's going anywhere.
SKEEBLER
I wouldnt wanna call these dumb bitches in the FUTURE for advice or replacements! Going to be hundredaires if that!
Random
Nice repost from Reddit.
EHRMAHGERD!!
RHEDDERT!!!!
Dr. JFever
So car airbags use a chemical explosion that often leaves small burns on the arms when they deploy. Would these leave burns on your neck or head?
JarikCBol
this thing probably deploys from a C02 canister, so you don't have to strap a small bomb to your throat.
Anonymous
I think my favorite part of it is the fact that they were told they couldn’t do it so that’s why they pressed on… reminds me of my daughters and my wife. If you tell them they can’t do something, they’ll prove you wrong. I think one of them may wind up ruling the world one day. Good job ladies!
jfd9898
Come on really ..as said its not invisible and it looks more uncomfortable then a bike helmet and also what is the cost and additional cost if it deploys? can it be repacked or do you have to buy another one. I can believe girls created it but I cannot believe they have raised 10,000,000 dollars for this.
10thletter
whats up with only showing 5 seconds of the "invisible helmet "? prob because it doesnt work and they want to get more money from suckers.
besides, having had an airbag from a car save my ass, airbags are loud and smokey, its basically a shotgun shell that goes off and the gasses inflate the bag super fast.
thats what we need — someone hits a curb on his bike a shot goes off and theres smoke everywhere. it will freak the shit out of everyone on the street but the guy on the bike will be fine except for the beating he gets for looking like a failed suicide bomber
Euroranger
As an idea, it's intriguing. I see the bulky cervical collar look being a v1.0 thing. Later versions will likely be smaller. I could really appreciate the technical merit of the idea if it was reusable and could be repacked and recharged.
But who the fuck knows because the video talked more about some nebulous misogyny ("roosters" and "I can't believe girls did this") than the actual product/idea.
Congrats on your idea, ladies. Guess what though: there are lots of entrepreneurial women in the world. You're not the first and some smarmy video smugly referencing some gender bias slight doesn't do a damn thing to promote your good idea. Hope it takes off but I hope you also ditch the subtle persecution marketing angle.
Littlet
well said my friend, well said.
Euroranger
You don't even see this new helmet until 3:05 of a 3:34 video promoting it. The previous 3:00 was them going "we're women…and we invented something" as though that in itself was the jaw-dropping innovation.
…and obviously I need to consider decaf in the mornings.
