ok.. i literally just BUST OUT laughing.

Im watching this thinking.. is this a joke?.. are they wearing the helmet already? where is it? only to find out its a freakin AIR BAG YOU WEAR ON YOUR NECK! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. yeah, ok. I can wear a lightweight, airy comfortable helmet… or strap this big thick thing around my neck in the middle of the summer on a 90 degree day. I also get to HOPE that the damn thing doesnt fail when i need it. At least in a car, you have the seat belt back up.

The idea is good… the application is not.

    Great idea!!!

  • Tickler

I wanted more clips of their legs!

dainese (motorbike sportswear, Italy) has been developing exactly the same technology for several years: accelerometers attached to pressurised CO2, which is released in case the position and the acceleration of the body change quickly.

Where is the invention about this?

  • Craigery

I can see it! I can see the invisible helmet! I must have superpowers!

i seriously thought this was a joke… but whoa!!!!

  • the_real_Mike

Looks stupid and uncomfortable…I'll stick to my helmet….which I don't find uncomfortable at all.

  • NelPit

In other parts of the world, this has a chance. The problem I see in the US is that they will have to get the entire system of evaluating bicycle helmets thrown out and revised. Too often, It's the regulatory side of things that kills great ideas (Just look at some of the amazing airplane seats that have been designed).

"Great ideas"? Please, this is a moronic idea. You are basing your safety on a battery powered accelerometer and CO2 canister. What if the battery runs out? What if it fails to deploy? What if theres a glitch and it deploys randomly while you're riding normally? What if the airbag has an imperfection and pops? While many of these things can be avoided with proper maintenance and QC, why not just get yourself a really nice helmet that you know will protect your head every time. The fancy ones are supremely comfortable and well ventilated.

" Cars are so yesterday " Yes, i can see you becoming millionaires with such business sense.

  • Rob Whitey

If they could put that into a jock strap than I'd be impressed. I hate wearing a cup

  • Nick

What happens when you aren't crushed by a car? I assume you will still smash your head in on the pavement/track/path when the "invisible" helmet is not deployed on an impact.

  • Bw11

Neat, but not totally impressed – motorcycle racing leathers have had similar technology for a few years already.

  • brown dog

I really thought this was going to be one big joke. It's not.

    BRAVO!

  • Av10

Oh fucking hipsters!! Meet ur god!!

  • brandon

this is the stupidest thing i have ever seen. So im trading in my helmet for what appears to be a bulky, uncomfortable and most likely restricting kneck brace/airbag deploying helmet? no thanks! terrible idea.

Innovative ideas are often met with scorn. It's too bad they focused on the fact this engineers are women, it opens up the opportunity for people to focus on their gender rather than their invention. Considering most of the comments left here are from desk jockeys I'm not surprised.

I hope they get sponsorship and are noticed in the athletic world – I would like to know more about the company and how they address some of the questions raised above: neck mobility, visibility, and how it protects as compared to a standard helmet. So good job in that Chive! You're helping the inventors that support safety for those who have that chance of being run down for spite in a very Farenhiet 451 American life.

Theres nothing sexually biased about it, some things should be kept low tech. This would be great supplementary tech if it can be made small enough to be used in conjunction but on its own it is wanting.

sweeds and their crazy ideas… a neck brace that inflates a plastic bag over your head if you make too sudden or jarring movements… just make sure you don't forget to charge the battery or that six hundred dollar neck brace is going to be just a fashionable collar on your corpse when you get hit by a garbage truck because you couldn't look left. How did they raise $10,000,000? stick to making coffee tables out of particle board, i think the futuristic cyclist world is a closed niche. what i really need is an easier way to text while on my bike

  • BRapper

That looks more rediculous than a bicycle helmet.

  • Hunter_BZ

Jeez, no one had their coffee yet?

  • Derp

Alpine skiing airbags are the exact same concept and have been around for years.

  • Gnarlymilk

OK.. I applause the out-side-of-the-box-thinking, and I wish there were 10x people that thought like this. The world would be much better. However I still think there is tons they need to improve /address. Hopefully that was not there "coming out video" as it did not highlight the product well at all. First all I only see this being good for small falls, anything major mehh I don't know. Second what kind of helmets are SO uncomfortable that you would rather have a rather large ( likely more heavy/bulky ) neck brace. I Mt. bike and road bike I use both types of helmets ( full face and just the simple hat type ) both are not bulky/constricting/heavy or w/e and honestly I have to say I would feel much more safe using the standard helmet. Also with all the air bag injuries, something about strapping one to my neck just bothers me lol. However like I said, I applause them on there innovative idea and hope they keep going !

  • Force Kin

chives getting slow …. saw this the other day

  • CrapOnAStick

This was a boring waste of time. I thought it was going to be some amazing, breathtaking invention. But alas, I apparently should have been getting work done instead.

  • Stevenb

Guys, in America, this may not be as practical, we love our cars..when literally the rest of the world rides bikes..this thing is genius. Millions and Millions of people use bikes, if they can make something like this affordable, they will be set for life.

  • Calgary Luis

Good concept but what if something comes at your head …. Or you land on something sharp that pops the air bag… Hope for the best I guess 😣
