Zinedine Zidane Champions' League Final 2002 should have been here…

    • meam

He is in there but for what he'll be remembered for headbutting someone in the most un sport like way possible to end his career…just saying.

      • Anon

If someone said something about my mum I'd do the same..

        • DaddyD

If you head-butted everyone who said something about your mom, you wouldn't have time to do anything else.

      • Kzo

Because it is in this video, this is how people will remember him? I'm a bit doubtful

        • http://twitter.com/psykopengwin @psykopengwin

No, it's because it's one of the biggest displays of unsportsman-like conduct in soccer/futbol and because he hasn't done anything since.

    • Harvey

Id say the Rooney goal is more deserving, the game winner

    • rghty

      Pele's goal against Sweden too:

  • ku2tca86

Greatest moments in Merican Sport, plus a few other things that look cool. Come on meow!

    • Chris

Yeh definitely way too heavy on the American-only sports

      • DaddyD

        And men's sports.

    • Si1entStatic

There are many other sports played in all countries (not all are televised or recorded) so these might just be the only films the producer had access to. also copyrights and what not. Good vid none the less.

    • a-nom

That and waaaaay too many NBA dunks…there were a few impressive ones, but seriously…

    • Alex

There was no Ice Bowl….How is there no Ice Bowl? That game gave us the Lombardi Trophy.

      • Andy

Also no Greatest Game Ever Played, and The Play, and plenty of other things they left out. Needs "Some of" in front of the title.

    • Toon Army

Not totally true, I seen a clip from my home team Newcastle United!!(Uk Football) Cisse's epic goal! 😀

  • MickeyFig

Where is Ole Joe P at?

    • http://www.facebook.com/bill.wald Bill Wald

He was there for like .2 seconds

    • Ass Man

Rotting in hell where he belongs

      • Captain Obvious

Where's your smoking gun? Still waiting on ACTUAL evidence of a cover-up

        • Tim

Reference all the email correspondence found during the investigation. Oh and his own admittance to seeing the act and being involved in the conversation of fallout.

          • Captain Obvious

Actually the Freeh Report was largely speculative based on Freeh's own admission. After having read the report I didn't find anything concrete in the emails to show that he was in fact covering anything up. The worst evidence against him was response time, but he did report what he saw to both former President Spanier, and the chief of campus police. Also it was not Joe Paterno who witnessed the act it was former assistant coach Michael McQueary, who did not report it and frankly IS equally complicit in the conspiracy that occurred. I'm glad a dead man can be your lightning rod. Its not like he can defend himself.

            • Jukebox

Defend himself? get a clue! the guy didnt defend himself when he was alive…he knew what he didnt do was wrong. Mandatory reporter mean anything to you? Put your kid in those kids shoes. Hope he rots.

            • Bobestradamus

Can't we all just look the other way on this whole joe pa scandal? It's what he would have wanted.

  • http://www.facebook.com/dakota.moore.7393 Dakota Moore

    definitely gave me goosebumps

  • Nick

    Absolutely amazing

  • PDS

Screw you, from every Kentucky fan… ever! I still hate Laettner

    • Josh

Dude that was twenty years ago. Get over it and KCCO.

  • misschris

I'll admit, I didn't know every moment. But I know, just from the few second clips, that every moment was amazing. Awe-inspiring stuff 🙂

    • WindycityWoody

      Missing Walter Payton…..

  • EMH

Nice seeing one of the Sedin sisters getting his clock cleaned in there.

    • Shockteck

Dustin Brown was a beast in the Playoffs. Shy kid from Ithaca New York who had a stutter his whole life and all he does is crush people on the ice. Love watching him jack up a Sedin sister. I wish he had crushed Burrows as well. Good thing Mike Richards got him.

    • bry

The one Thomas had in the finals against the sedins was better by far.

  • Kigali
  • tv_paul

Good stuff, It was nice to see boxing clips for the 60's & 70's when they actually had about 12 talented guys who pounded each other regularly to see who would earn a title fight to be the heavyweight champion.

  • Airmaxx23

    Jordan = G.O.A.T.

  • Y u no

Y u no do Ice hockey or mike Tyson

    • morebeer

Ice hockey was in there, watch again

      • Beev

Barely, they missed Crosby's overtime winner for the Olympic gold vs the US and Bobby Ore's "The Goal". Those were some pretty big moments in sports

        • morebeer

I'm just sayin it was there
Obviously a lot of moments got overlooked, in something like this there is always going to be some bias. Almost impossible to be impartial

          • gmen

ray bourqe winning it is THE greatest moment in sports ever.

          • Hooray

There's no Gretzky clips. You bet there was a bias.

      • eh oh

for how many random basketball dunks were in there, more than 3 hockey clips would have been nice to see

  • Sam

I'm not even going to front that these clips are timeless (for the most part…cept soccer head butt and the like)…but as far as hockey is concerned….no Wayne/Curri dream team Oilers run? No Canada beating the Russians in Olympics hockey? This video is to sports what NBC is to the Olympics…95% U.S…rest of the world doesnt matter.

    • Ryan

It wasn't really great moments. It was just a highlight reel for the most part.

      • Dugan

        Jari Kurri.

    • Wanda

just the way it should be. USA! USA! USA!

    • Bath Salty Dog

Once Canada comes up with a website as popular as theChive then you can add all the hockey, figure skating, ice fishing highlights you want. Until then, suck our dominance.

      • Sam

Heh, we know…the only two countres that dont respect Canada are Afghanistan and the U.S. S'ok. The only country that still respects the U.S is the U.S. and whoever currently are receiving munitions from you.

    • Kyle

      I miss the sun.

    • Michael Jordan

The rest of the world doesn't have athletes of even half the caliber of the US. Last time I checked, we were in the US. If you want to see athletes from the rest of the world, watch FIFA, where even their top players are second rate compared to American athletes. You sir, are an idiot.

      • Greg

Umm hockey? Russia, Canada, Sweden, Finland….US is competitive too. Quit being naive.

  • Carlos

why is higuita's performance in a test game (!) vs england a greatest moment of sports??
was nice to look at, but not a moment of sports history…

  • AlbertaChiver Bstad

    Stupidest video ever

  • Verbal_Kint

Great vid, Ali was a bad motherfucker. Not sure wtf Hulk Hogan was doing in there though…

    • N.W.O.

      Because he's a REAL AMERICAN!

      • Verbal_Kint

I don't know that real and Hulk Hogan really go well together.

    • Meh

Or "Look over here while Sandusky sodomizes young boys" Joe P. Trees are much better than his statue.

  • Carlos

where is michael schumacher, 7 times winner of formula one, best race driver ever???

    • DaddyD

Driving race cars is a sport?

      • Pr0n

Yeah it's one of the most physically and mentally exhausting things you can do. F1 racers get their blood checked before and after a race to make sure their diet or fluid intake is good.

It takes far more dedication and hard work to win one race than some NBA players display in an entire lifetime. Everyone thinks you just sit there and turn a steering wheel with no more exertion than playing a racing video game, those people are quite ignorant. As are you.

On a side note During Schumacher's 'Glory days' he was making more than Kobe ever has. Also, the top paid F1 drivers can make substantially more than any waste of space and good oxygen NBA/NFL player. That money is spent because of the hard work and dedication it takes to be that driver.

Another side note: NBA and NFL players are a waste of space and oxygen.

        • Nascar sucks

Good god shut the fuck up

          "kindly leave hill billy"

          • Pr0n

ROFL!! 'NASCAR" god what an idiot. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=F1+vs+nascar

            You sure showed me.

            • Shockteck

What are you talking about? Nascar is awesome. The problem is I can't afford to watch it so I go down to the intersection in my town and watch all the Cars make left turns. It is just as awesome to watch and less rednecks!

              • bazz

Why the thumbs down? That's some funny shit.

  • Micklad

    That was fukkin epic

  • BuffaloJustSayin

I can't help but get a little watery eyed. Excellent video.

  • Gursch

that was nice. hockey=life and although there were only a few clips of it I'm happy two of those clips were of dustin brown crushing sedin and a shot of cup. In actuality, this video has hardly scratched the surface of great moments in sports but it's a great reminder of how special it is. Sports = happiness

    • BuffaloJustSayin

      Amen to hockey.

      • Shockteck

The Mike Richards hit on Alex Burrows was awesome too. Burrows is a weasel.

        • toewssss

Burrows had more points, has toned down his greasy self since a couple seasons ago. I'm a Chicago fan and its hard to say but Burrows was a better player in the 2012 season than richards.

          • Shockteck

No way. Burrows is a one style player. Richards does everything. Fights, hits, scores, sets up plays and leads by example and he had just moved to a new team so of course his points will be lower. He won a Mem cup, Gold Medal and now a Stanley cup. He wins everything. Career wise if you would rather have burrows on your team than Richards I would call you crazy. If Burrows has cleaned up then you should re watch game 1 of the Playoffs vs. the Kings and watch when Mitchell touches him behind the net after the whislte and gets a roughing call. Flopped like a fish. Everyone on the ice was laughing.

            • Shockteck

              This is my Point.

  • Dylan

"Greatest moments in sports" and it's 99% American. Ego much?

    • https://www.facebook.com/nick.luckner Nicholas Luckner

Bc america is the greatest? Lol

      • Drew

        Haters gonna' hate. ;P

    • GWB

      Did you watch the olympics?

      • Dylan

You mean the olympics where the US earned 15% of the gold medals and 11% of all medals?

        • Tim

That's an interesting set of numbers. Which country won the most of all medals awarded? And which country won the most gold medals? Oh maybe you are not referencing the 2012 Summer olympics that were hosted in London, England. In that case I can forgive your ingor…wait, nope…still can't forgive the ignorance.

          • Dylan

I got my numbers from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Summer_Olympics

Yes the US won the most medals, but they didn't win 99% of the medals, which it seemed GWB was using as justification for the video being 99% American.

            • Tim

Wikipedia, now there a trustful source. Did you post those yourself?

              • Dylan

                You have another source?

                • alex

Well, seeing as how 3 medals are awarded per event, and most events don't consist of only one country competing, then it would only be logical to think that the most medal percentage any country could win would be 33%, and that would mean medaling in every single event. Therefore, winning 99% of medals is impossible, unless you are North Korea. So to look at Olympic medals in terms of percentages, you need to include more than one country in order to get a broader picture. Now stating the fact that the USA won more medals and golds than any other country is accurate, and doesn't require further discussion. USA, USA, USA. B)

                  • Greg

Funny that Canada won 16% of the golds in the winter Olympics. CANADA!

  • Aaron

Aside from the Taylor Morris story, this is probably the greatest thing I've ever seen on TheChive.

  • UCFKnights

No Landon Donavon World Cup goal?

    • longcoolwoman

  • aubrey

Kerri Strugg doing her second vault on an injured leg for the US to win gymnastics gold in 96 should have been in there too.

  • Ryan

This is a highlight reel, not greatest moments in sports. There were a few "great" moments sprinkled in but a lot of the clips were just really cool meaningless highlights.

    • Obamablows

Ab-so-lute-ly correct, Ryan. How many dumb-ass, meaningless basketball dunks could ever make it to the greatest moments list? Certainly a LOT less than actually did make it to this clip. When 80% of the league dunks with regularity, they cease to mean much. And, for those who are complaining that it was terribly American-centric, we tried to do one for other countries, but how many curling, rowing, weightlifting, ping-pong, and cricket great moments can there be?
