Back in 2003, some awesome dude decided his living room needed a man cave upgrade. This is pretty cool...
Come pimp my basement! Free drinks!!1!
- Oh, and…. FuuuuuuRRSSTT!!
By the way, who is your pimp, you soulless cunt.
Hahaha, that picture was kinda begging for you to shop it…
Kill yourself please
You would edit a photo dedicated to a hero you egotistic moron.
Why won't you die.
I don't know how!
Hey Paula, are you hot?
Someone once set my tail on fire?
- Fan testimonial: "I hate everything that you choose to be. You are just awful. Stop breathing. You are stealing air that could be used on real people. You are an oxygen thief. – buck"
Obviously a Reddit repost.
Isn't that place full of pedo's? Guess that's why you go there first.
Actually, the link at the bottom says they got this one from imgur, and by the looks of that page, it's the original poster. OH NO! Reddit stole something, just like theChive did. Now that you know, you better go bitch about it on Reddit too!
Failed a bit there, Imgur was created by a Reddit user to deal with the lack of decent image hosts. Reddit is the primary source of posts on both here, 9gag, and most other similar sites.
So because someone who has looked at reddit created Imgur means that the chive is stealing from reddit??? I wonder if that guy looked at the chive too??
Imgur was created to serve as an image host for Reddit and other sites, it was originally posted on Reddit, it was stolen from Reddit. Hope that's simple enough.
Stolen. God you are a fucking cunt. No one cares.
i love you paula have my baby!
Paula only takes it up the ass. So your shit outa luck for a baby.
Chive needs a block button so i never have to see your posts again.
I'll block that idea when it comes up. Oh yes we can.
- blocked ya FIRST !!1!
Im gonna be honest, Paula makes me laugh most of the time. Hating Paula is part of what makes the Chive, the Chive. Im pretty sure that no other website like this has its own version of Paula and the loyal following that equally hates her.
Cool project.<img src="http://s01.flagcounter.com/count/7uR/bg=FFFFFF/txt=FFFFFF/border=FFFFFF/columns=1/maxflags=1/viewers=3/labels=0/" alt="." width="1" border="0" /><img src="http://s11.flagcounter.com/count/Ry4/bg=FFFFFF/txt=FFFFFF/border=FFFFFF/columns=1/maxflags=1/viewers=3/labels=0/" alt="." width="1" border="0" />
however, having framed a few houses myself. Looking at those pics suggests he is compromising the structural integrity of the house. He cut floor joists and did not support them in any new way. like some columns under the floor where the joists now end.
it is a sick project and probably good him stupid amounts of tail, but it violates building codes and will make it impossible to sell…
nailed it. and dont forget about humidity issues.
Nearly bought a house that had a hidden small pool kinda like this lol
You nearly weren't a useless douche-nozzle.
be glad you did not. several things look wrong with how they did that…
cool story, bro…
out of order pictures are out of order
…And a 28" tube TV.
it was 2003…
Everyone was going nuts about flat screens back then… this guy was going nuts about secret hot tubs.
I wonder how the humidity in that room is going to affect a tv
Yea I was thinking the same thing all that money spent and still a crappy tv. Although I bought a plasma in 2003 for 4k and it doesn't work anymore he probably still has that bad ass tub so touché looks like I'm the chump.
#18 I would have left a raw fireplace…bitches love fireplaces.
we sure do!
That was my first thought, why did he cover the fireplace.
cool but wouldn't the steam ruin the walls and ceiling?
Thats what i was thinking..and you would smell chlorine all the time but neat idea
Guessing you would want to paint the walls and ceiling with bathroom/kitchen waterproof paint.
Actually, I was once advised to use an outdoor paint for interior rooms that are likely to be too steamy. Apparently outdoor paints are infused with a fungicide to cut down on mold, mildew and such.
could also start with mold/mildew resistant 'blue' drywall… would definitely cut down on the yucky yucks growing.
this is nearing 10 years old, it would be interesting to see how the project held up
I'd like to see if they did anything to carry the load once they cut those floor joists. Kind of terrifying if not
One pic looked like it has come concrete pylons to reinforce the joists. Like you said, crazy if they didnt.
glad I'm not the only one concerned about the structural integrity. My first thought was, "do they plan on falling in?"
…was thinking the same thing, he'll likely end up with a lot of cracked tiles at best or a living room and hot tub in the basement at worst. I'm wondering how he supported that hot tub too.
There is a concrete floor under the tub, it should be fine. Don't see any supports though for the floor, that is a big concern. If they open the windows when the tub lid is off there shouldn't be any issues with moisture/condensation.
Won't pass code though if they go to sell the house.
Better have that TV and all the circuits around it on GFCI outlets.
This man knows.
Seconded. Good luck selling that.
It's a rental
Also pretty fucked from the added weight of the stone around the brick fireplace.
Looking closer at the pictures, it appears that they built a concrete "container" underneath the floor, supporting it on all four sides, which houses the hot tub. Now, there isn't any indication of how thick the concrete is, but at least it supports the floor.
I think you are seeing the concrete wall in the basement from a bad angle screwing up depth, it is there in earlier shots where it is obviously just the outside foundations.
That's the first thing I thought when i saw that they just cut the center of the joists out. Kind of crazy…
bitches didnt carri dat load
No, he didn't. Folks asked this when he originally posted it on reddit. There's no extra support for the SLATE flooring, no venting in the crawl space or above for the hot tub. There were a number of poor decisions here.
Look at the second pic. There is a main beam supported by a concrete pillar running perpendicular to the floor joist a few inches back from where the floor joists get cut.
#9 AND #10 show that he framed in the opening, I'm guessing he tied the floor joists into those 2x6s.
Cool… Until the moisture fucks up the walls and ceilings!…But nicely done.
order picture out of are
We need to see that gif of Paula again!! It should make the DAR every now and again!
Taken right off Reddit from yesterday.
Not everyone reads Reddit, keep calm.
You could try going outside every once in a while instead of bitching on TheChive…
Stay over on that site and let us Chive On!
I find reddit incredibly difficult to navigate. It is just a giant news feed of the net.
Chive distills the fun stuff. google alerts do the rest.
You're exactly right. Chive taking credit for more stolen content…SHOCKER.
Look at the link at the bottom genius! It's from the guy that did it's imgur page! Reddit stole it too. Did it ever occur to you that everything Reddit posts already exists elsewhere? TheChive and Reddit do the same thing. Summarize the best of the net in the same place. TheChive adds user friendliness and a community. Is the internet really that difficult to comprehend?
Of course it's from imgur. Imgur is an image hosting site that almost every redditor use. I've been browsing a bunch of sites for a long time but after some time I realized that almost everything i saw on other sites I had already seen on reddit.
I still chive because lets face it. Chivettes are the hottest!
I bet the TV's only channel is scrambled porn
Why don't you go stab a homeless guy and stomp his dog? Or cut off a model's head and keep it in your freezer? Or kill a hooker by dropping a chainsaw on her from several flights of stairs above her?
been there done that.
Or they hook up a camera and make their own…
#18 someone's gonna get drunk and knock the TV into the Tub
I think if you took all the "cool" in the world and got rid of it, that's how cool it is.
PS: It looks like he just cut the floor joists without adding any supports below. Structurally deficient.
I wouldn't buy that house. The joists are there for a reason. You're 100% correct, this is seriously structurally deficient.
Cool idea, terrible execution.
odd. with luck he might get laid.
if not make trap door in floor: remove the tub, leave the hole, cover pit with the 'pretty' rug, let victims fall into his basement cage. Kings did it, let him rule his own domain.
Or Rancor Pit.
Dumb to the maxxxx…. It should lift up out of the floor.
So you prefer above-ground pools too? Why climb up into the tub when you can just step right in?
Then it wouldn't be "hidden"
This guy is my new hero
this guy is a boss deluxe
sofa king we todd did
No industrial venting. They will have toxic mold take over their house within 2-3 years.
or they could get a dehumidifier like i did, idiot
this would be a sweet trap if there wasn't the cover under the rug..
Hey, can you go and grab the remote of the tv for me?
Sure, hang on a se….AAAARRRGGHHH!!!!!! What a world, what a world….
I'm assuming the floor joists served a purpose, but apparently not for this guy.
He does what he wants
And all of that trapped steam condensing around what joists are left. Darwin Award Winner, right here.
Times like these I wish I had a man.
I was going to say, judging from your pic there, it shouldn't be to hard to find one. You're hot.
But then I saw that you're a gold star dyke. And noticed your name.
Still hot though.
If she went bi, she could probably get a guy to build her a fucking entire house. She's way hot.
Dikes can built things. Just keep your self a big ol butch dike.
This house is in my neighborhood and there was an article in the local paper. It didn't matter that the guy fucked up the house's structural integrity because it was just an old crack house and meth lab that he got cheap from the bank on a foreclosure. Unfortunately, he and the guy helping him in the photos actually ended up drowning in the hot tub. They forgot it was there and fell into it in a drunken stupor. Both of their blood alcohol levels were 2.85. The house was demolished by the city.
My moniker has never been more appropriate. Care to share a link? Or at least the city?
And the guy helping him was the best that he could attract to share his time? Just sad all around.
2.85, I do believe your math is off. Unless they had nearly 3x as much alcohol in their body as blood.
I do believe you don't understand the metric system. Also, the original post was obviously a joke.
What about the dog… please tell me the dog's ok
