Failed a bit there, Imgur was created by a Reddit user to deal with the lack of decent image hosts. Reddit is the primary source of posts on both here, 9gag, and most other similar sites.

however, having framed a few houses myself. Looking at those pics suggests he is compromising the structural integrity of the house. He cut floor joists and did not support them in any new way. like some columns under the floor where the joists now end.

it is a sick project and probably good him stupid amounts of tail, but it violates building codes and will make it impossible to sell…

Actually, I was once advised to use an outdoor paint for interior rooms that are likely to be too steamy. Apparently outdoor paints are infused with a fungicide to cut down on mold, mildew and such.

could also start with mold/mildew resistant 'blue' drywall… would definitely cut down on the yucky yucks growing.
this is nearing 10 years old, it would be interesting to see how the project held up

There is a concrete floor under the tub, it should be fine. Don't see any supports though for the floor, that is a big concern. If they open the windows when the tub lid is off there shouldn't be any issues with moisture/condensation.
Won't pass code though if they go to sell the house.
Better have that TV and all the circuits around it on GFCI outlets.

Looking closer at the pictures, it appears that they built a concrete "container" underneath the floor, supporting it on all four sides, which houses the hot tub. Now, there isn't any indication of how thick the concrete is, but at least it supports the floor.

I think you are seeing the concrete wall in the basement from a bad angle screwing up depth, it is there in earlier shots where it is obviously just the outside foundations.

No, he didn't. Folks asked this when he originally posted it on reddit. There's no extra support for the SLATE flooring, no venting in the crawl space or above for the hot tub. There were a number of poor decisions here.

Look at the second pic. There is a main beam supported by a concrete pillar running perpendicular to the floor joist a few inches back from where the floor joists get cut.

This house is in my neighborhood and there was an article in the local paper. It didn't matter that the guy fucked up the house's structural integrity because it was just an old crack house and meth lab that he got cheap from the bank on a foreclosure. Unfortunately, he and the guy helping him in the photos actually ended up drowning in the hot tub. They forgot it was there and fell into it in a drunken stupor. Both of their blood alcohol levels were 2.85. The house was demolished by the city.
