    It's not the HD that makes it look fake, It's a technology called "interpolation" that most HDTVs have. Basically it adds extra still frames between the frames of video signal producing a higher (but fake) frame rate. This is similar to how soap operas are filmed and so it ends up looking like a soap opera…. overly dramatic and fake. BUT! this is usually a setting that can be turned off in your TV settings :-)
