I grew up next to an old man who we called Sarge. An old Army NCO he had served at the end of WW2 and Korea. He would sit in his front yard and talk to the neighborhood kids, telling stories of his life and trying to instill us with a sense of morality, compassion and civic duty. One day, when I was a teenager, he asked me to come over and help him with something. He gave me a letter from an old buddy of his, asked me to read it, which I did, then asked if I could write the reply he dictated. I joked that he had lost his glasses to which he replied "No, I never learnt to read properly."

it's so amazing the AA Milne, the original author of Winnie the Pooh tried to kill pooh off at the end of his second book and lived his whole life regretting creating the character.

AA milne wrote the first two books for his kid, christopher robin, and they got picked up. After that he tried to go more into adult fiction and always regretted creating the Intellectual property that Disney had picked up as it overshadowed everything he was trying to accomplish. he actually said in an interview once that he wanted to kill Pooh off at the end of his second book but didn't.

Why is it that you cant not like winnie the pooh, Tweety Bird, the Road Runner and all the other goody goodies and somehow not of had a childhood? I'll cry everytime I watch Gran Torrino, the death in Bridge to Terribithia, or that death scene in 'UP'. But you know what I cant stand? This goody goody, tweety bird is the good guy, friendship is the meaning of life, incrowd crap thats shoved down our throats as kids. And Pooh bear is the king of that garbage notion.

Thanks but my childhood will be hangin with the real kids watching Ninja Turtles or The real Ghostbusters, you goody goody dorks.
