Let’s get Halloween started with some little-known facts about Poltergeist (15 Photos)

  • Nicnac

The arsehole who strangled Dominique Dunne until she was brain dead served only 4 years in prison and has been a free man for decades. Ugh!

#15 – sorry about that mess dear – I told you I was about to pop….

I don't think anyone heard you the first two times. You should try this golden line again.

#15 this film haunted me as a child but i have no doubt that the last one is a bit of a lie but would have been cool if it was true 😀

last film, the third in the tower?

  • ado

    They used real fucking skeletons?!?!

  • mateo

Dominique Dunne was probably one of the sweetest girls I ever knew. We went to the same high school and I had a huge crush. She, Catherine Calder and Caroline Gandy were the hottest girls on the planet to me then.

  • Scolaighe

Cameras pan or dolly (track), they do not "scroll"…

You don't need to copy the URL, you simply put the hash / pound sign followed by the number of the picture. #4

#15 Can't be real. Who in the hell is selling real skeletons? You realize how many are in that movie at the end?

  • aefe

    "genuine psychic ability"

    That's nice, honey.

  • Duckman

I knew most of this, but I have to dispute the claim that it was the earliest film to discuss EVPs. The Changeling did it 2 years earlier, and I think some of the "haunted house investigation" movies from the 70's did, too.

  • chron247

#8 That scene F#cked me up as a kid.

  • Tim

FOOOOOCK that god damn movie. So many restless nights leaving the lights on. The first time I saw it I made my dad take my tv out of my room. He suggest putting in the closet, I suggest throwing it off of a cliff.

I was never afraid of any movie monsters growing up….except for that preacher Kane guy in the 2nd one (who also died after filming perpetuating the 'poltergeist curse' not so much whoever was the kane character in the third, but def the 2nd, creeped the fucked outta me. anyone see that one and agree?

  • phoneboy

Another cool fact. The house implosion at the end was also a simple effect. They had a model of the house over a powerful vacuum, and they nailed the house with a shotgun a couple times.

    More backstory to it.

  • Lori

I was 6 or 7 when Poltergeist came out in 1982. My mom saw the ads on TV and thought that it was a kid's movie. It was rated PG, after all. It had the cute little girl in it. So, she takes me to see this. When I told her I was scared, she said, "Well, I already paid for it, so we're staying." I had nightmares about #8 for weeks. WEEKS. I have never been able to watch scary movies and it is directly related to this early childhood experience. Well, there was also the time that my dad took me to see "Ghoulies" instead of "Goonies." That's another story, though . . .

I call bullsh*t on #15. Good luck finding "real" skeletons. It is against U.S. law to skeletonize a human person. That's why they're always plastic.

  • Mouly0

I laughed at the 'genuine psychic abliity.' I somehow think not.

  • RomRom

#3 Dominique Dunne was certainly a beauty. Her killer hardly did any time.

  • Over9000

I grew up with Heather O'Rourke. Our moms were friends and were very involved in making crafts together. I hung out with her the day before she died. She was a very un-happy child, still awful that she dies so young.

    • Jerry

An un-happy child? Really, I wonder what made you think that… I know someone who begs to differ!
