Laughing gas (Nitrous Oxide) doesn't do that to you, they use a stronger anesthetic to put you under for dental surgery. I love using the gas when I'm at the dentist when getting a root canal or filling but the effects wear off immediately after it is removed.

In the vid *she says* "the laughing gas didn't phase [her]…" – it was a quote. I assume they started her on it while the anesthetic kicked in but is all she remembers.

Yeah, I know.. but she was WRONG!!! I'll cut her some slack since she didn't seem to be in the right frame of mind. lol

Actually, you're right Monkey. She was most likely sedated with Versed and Fentanyl. The Versed gives you the amnesic effect. They still use Lidocaine as a local anesthetic and the N2O as an adjunct to the IV sedation. Yes …I'm a Dentist…..

I thought you weren't allowed to record or discuss what happened during recovery? At least they wouldn't tell my mother anything when I had mine out in high school. Times change?

As an RN…Versed yes, Fentanyl-for wisdom teeth extract-hard to believe. I'd consider that "heavy-handed" anesthesia. No need for fent for this procedure when other, less potent, opioids would do the trick…fentanyl is 100x more potent than morphine-no need in this setting. As an internet rule-of-thumb, always be skeptical of someone claiming to be a doctor.

My dentist gave me 2 each of halcion and phenergan, not sure of mg., with NOS, for an extraction.
No pain at all and was able to drive myself home afterwards…

love it when a nurse tries to tell a doctor what they should do. Also, in these IV procedures many of my college often get an anesthesiologist to do the anesthesia, but really a RN knows way more than we do according to internet rule-of-thumb so you should listen to them.

It's not really to heavy handed as you titrate in small doses. Both are pretty short acting, as you know, and the procedures generally only last for about an hour to an hour and a half…

i was thinking the same thing, but i was thinking midazolam, then i looked up versed and realised it WAS midazolam. crazy 'mericans, generic names are so much easier. NO2 btw. but im assuming that was just a typo.

I'm kinda baffled why they use gas over there, is that the usual way? I'm in Holland and I never heard anyone using such extended measures for a simple wisdomtooth.
