#21 we have a Newfoundland that if i remember right had a similar problem…. It was a blood related issue and turns out his immune system was trying to kill off his healthy blood cells. I cant recall if it was white or red cells but im pretty sure both can be related to immune system issues. our boy is fine now so hope your buddy gets better

Hey chivers. This is diesels owner. I sent that pic in last week. He made it home from the hospital and is doing much better. We are waiting on his blood work results from Monday to see where he's at now with his blood cell counts. It's wierd. His whites were coming back up before he got released but his reds were dropping. He just finished a cycle of a bunch of antibiotics and is still on steroids. His energy is back with his appetite. He always wants to eat. He's a back up to his pre sick wieght. Thanks everyone for the kind words an thoughts. Kcco.

    • VC98

Good to hear, keep getting well Diesel

    • Steph

Glad to hear he seems to at least be feeling better. Hopefully, the test results will provide the answers and you can get him on track to a permanent recovery ASAP. I know it's tough when your furbaby is sick, hang in there!

    • Dork

Good luck Diesel! My pup got sick this summer. Had very low red blood count but no fever. Abdominal ultrasound found growth in small intestine (fuck cancer! He is doing much better now). Could it be that your pup ate something that caused a puncture somewhere in his digestive track?

    • Alpha_Dog

Sending good Karma to Diesel & prayers for a full recovery. Hang in there Derek; we're all thinking of you & pulling for you!

    • Mike

Hey man, my Rottie had a similar problem (actually happened twice, but less severe the second time). The vets were never able to identify the root cause of the fever and deemed it "a fever of unknown origin." He was on fluids and anti-biotics for a solid week, but he eventually came around and now he is fine. No fevers for 2 years. My recommendation is to keep records of everything that has been done, to include the bloodwork results, so that if it does happen again, you have all of that as a reference. Good luck Diesel!

This and the responses are why chivers rule. All ages and all walks of life, but so much in common. Good to hear and KCCO Diesel!

    • ImpressMe

      • tv_paul

Good luck. I had a cocker spaniel (Holly) years ago with a similar problem. It turned out her liver wasn't functioning properly and her body had created shunts to work around it. The vet said she'd die in a few weeks but I took her to another vet and with switching antibiotics every few months she lived for about 5 more years before her body gave out. The good thing is this treatment he created with her as the guinea pig help a lot of other dogs live longer lives.

        • derek

thank you guys again for all the kind words and prayers. several people commented about similar conditions and ideas of what could have caused it. his xrays and ultrasound came back fine. small abnormality in the kidney but function was good. vet said nothing to worry about. still waiting for the results of his blood work from monday. he is active and eating non stop. im just hoping it was a random infection and not a condition he will have to be medicated for the rest of his life. again thank you for all the positive comments. except the one guy that im sure blames everything that happens to what he calls a "designer dog" on breeding. lol. to each their own. KCCO.
