It allows us the chance to live with our fellow people in the safety of peace and prosperity without the constant fear of having others prey on those weaker with no reprecussions. Once we take away the liberty of a civilized society by compromising it's base intention of peace and prosperity by allowing someone to dictate different rules that suit themselves ( extortion or dictatorships are examples ) for safety from whatever harm may be placed upon us is what I think Benjamin was making a reference to.

And there it is again. Another example of why this country is spiraling down the toilet. Did you watch videos of the Japanese after their earthquake? They'd be given a food relief package, and they would literally turn to their neighbor and hand it to them. Contrast that to our post Katrina victims who had a WEEK's worth of advance notice.
