There's a Yogi Bear-picnic basket-reference in here somewhere, but I'm too busy sending positive vibes to figure it out. Hang in there Yogi.

Our beautiful dapple miniature dachshund, Gretta, had emergency back surgery a little over three years ago for a herniated disc. Prior to the surgery, she crashed and burned quickly, just as you've described.

After the surgery, her hind end was paralyzed for about a month. Glad to say, she is able to walk again and has been a mostly healthy, active part of our family ever since. She goes to rehab once a week (and has been doing so for the whole three years). She walks on an underwater treadmill and does other exercises with the therapist, who has been an absolute Godsend. And, yes, it's all very costly, as you said. I don't regret one penny we've spent, though. I couldn't live with myself if we had done any less than we could do.

Watching my little dog go through the whole ordeal was very difficult, but watching her persevere has been a blessing. Whatever life throws her way, she just deals with it. I've become so close to that dog, I can't even explain it. She's an inspiration to me.

She'll never walk normally (though she gets around just fine) and will always have some bladder control issues, but she's still our little girl and we love her a lot. I don't know what I'd have done if we had lost her.

Hang in there, my friend. Good luck to you and Yogi! Here's to happier, better days ahead.

PS: If there's anyone in your area that does the underwater treadmill therapy for dogs, I highly recommend it.

Hope they fix Yogi's boo boo soon!

Ask the vet about the steroid and crate regimen. Worked wonders for our Doxie! Best of luck

    • Kevin

Well wishes coming your way Yogi, hang in there little buddy.

I was already feeling sorry for all dachshunds everywhere for being bred so they're predisposed to back problems.

Went through the same thing with my dog, Max, two years ago. As I write this, Max is wagging his tail and tormenting the cats as they walk past. Good luck, Yogi!

Goo Luck Yogi! The same thing happened to my dog, but sadly i want able to afford the 7-10k surgery that would have given hima 50% chance of using his back legs. RIP Buddy! – You did the right thing man. I hope Yogi comes back kicking ass!!

    • OmahaDude

      Good lawd! Obsessed much?

    • Spelling Police

Half are either fakes, or she's an employee.

    • Lugh

I sincerely hope most of these are fakes or this picture was submitted by an employee. If not, then this person has a serious obsession and far too much disposable income to waste on t-shirts.

      • http://www.facebook.com/Tomsfoolery TommyD

Yeah, considering they're up to around $30 a shirt now, and most of those only came out on sale together, so they had to buy $100 at a time.

        For shirts.

    • Smitty

Either an employee, or the reason that no one else can get the shirts when they come out.

    • Danica SmashYA

not really, my ex husband has a ton of shirt, granted they are mostly banksy but he just grabs them every so often when they go on sale, but its not all chive shirts, he has a lot of variety but ya this is a bit much

    • JCope46

me and my GF have a lot of stuff too. we always buy during sales and stuff… my GF even hit it up a bit on black friday. Who cares what these people spend their money on. You guys need to worry about better things than that…
on a side note i dig the dog… which is what this post is supposed to be about.

      • Brandon

Yeah, sorry me and the fiancee enjoy the Chive and wanted to get some cool things and support an awesome website and group of people. Guess we weren't thinking about how some of you would feel about what we do with our money.. KCCO! -BMFK & KMFH

        • Von Mises Fan

Good point, but as a conservative, your statement sheds some light for me on how some "redistributionists" may feel; It's your money, that's true, but some have less of it for whatever reason, e.g. lower paying job, life's thrown 'em curve balls, etc., and there's definitely a sense of shirt-shortage going on here at the Chive. I guess I'm saying if you're aware of that shortage, then why stock up on shirts, when obviously there's folks who have missed the opportunity to buy just one (whatever the reason…)? To be clear, I'm absolutely not saying we should raise your taxes to pay for anyone else's shirts! I've just found that the successful sometime seem to leave others behind when leading the way and maybe not realize it… We can't all be natural-born savvy shirt shoppers! Thanks for the words above, though, and here's to continued success in all you do! KCCO, bro!

    #36 – "it attacked me, i swear."

  • chiver

#1 you got me on Awwwww already

  • Spc. Barker

#18, same thing happened with our mini Dachshund, what we ended up doing is keeping him at the vet for 3 days while they pumped him full of steroids. When he came home we kept him in the cage for a couple weeks to rest, he made a full recovery!!! KCCO through this time I'm sure he will pull through!.

    • Colin

Had the same issue with two of our dachshunds. They were litter mates and each suffered from a degenerative dis disorder causing calcification that ruptured the membranes between vertebrae. Each required the surgery and were paralyzed for many weeks. Both managed to regain mobility and were able to walk again though one had some continuing issues controlling her bowels. They both had it happen again between four and five years later at which time we had to let them go. It may well be a very tough road ahead and in a few years you may be forced to let him go. Even if that some day becomes the case, the extra time you will have will have been worth it. Best of luck to Yogi and cheers to you and all those who love him.

#5 Someone's getting a little carried away with the Chive merchandise. Consumerism much?
