Yeh, I really want that nice cold piece of metal sat in my pocket next to me balls all day long.

    • Chaosd

Physics happens, the metal will heat up to about your body temp.

      • Wut?

Physics happens, that phone will never get a signal.

    • Lydia

Just as good as having your balls microwaved by the phone to bein with, right? :D

    Written on a back cover:
' I did everything I could. If someone can do it, do it better" – ancient roman saying.

    • yoyo

Am I seeing this wrong or did they totally remove that awesome quote?

      • A+ Cunning Linguist

For a full translation of the inside back cover (after the Latin):

I did all I could, he
who can, let him do better.

        A paraphrase of the expression
        used by Roman consuls
        when finishing their report
        transferring authority to the

Translator's note: He spelled "paraphrase" wrong in the Russian. Also, a play on words with "receiver", which can also mean "wireless radio", a close relative of the cell phone.

  • Yep

All that metal would effect the internal antennae, you would have a cold brick in your pocket that couldn't receive calls.

    • J Dub

      Aka an iPhone?

    • What what?

      • Grammar Nazi

        Your a dick!

        • Chaosd

Irony isn't just a river in Africa

    • Andy Valentine

But you'd look oh so stylish whilst you did it.

    • Anon

Yeah, thats totally why we can't receive calls in our cars, right?

  • Silverstone

    Very nicely done. (5 thumbs-up!)

  • AnItalianChiver

Don't worry Derv, Tim Cook is requesting 1mln $ on damages for the violation of Apple design patent. "The best steampunk phone ever"

  • MonkeyMadness

That looks pretty cool actually. This dude could make some serious cash customizing phones. But as Yep pointed out, the metal case could affect the internal antenna.

    • Euroranger

I dunno. That's an awful lot of copper. I'd think if the dude had run a lead from the internal antenna to the external casing, that much copper would make a fairly decent antenna.

  • bdh

is this meant to be a working phone? i assumed it was just an art project type of thing

  • ur mom

    But does it work?

"You're holding it wrong" – Steve Jobs

  • Pshhh

But does it weigh down paper well?

  • The Village Idiot

I want the email address of this person. I've got a couple of projects for them.

  • Barfing Rainbows

    Face palm!

  • Tiber_Septim

his metal crafting skills are fantastic, great looking, but it won't work

  • Dayervid

What a waste of time. How about a stonegoth phone or a victoriannewromantic phone or a tudorhippy phone? For steam punk read plastic punk.

    • Sir Cadogen

Are…are those actual things now? God, I've gotten old. Entire generations of dumbassed egotism have passed me by while I stared at breasts.

  • bones

    Still better than a blackberry

  • CJM

It's cool but what is the point?

    • Davis

The point, if I might be so bold to answer, is your very question. A crappy phone turned into an even less functional phone with all the charm of time's past: a comment on our transient nature maybe? Or, perhaps the gentleman simply enjoys the satisfaction of seeing a project (however whimsical) through to the end. I'm sure you can see the value in that.

      • CJM

I understand doing it and I can appreciate steam punk. But in this capacity its just not something that can be functional that's all I'm trying to say.

        • Chaosd

Why does it have to be functional? Perhaps it is a prop for a larger project like a film or play? Or it could simply be a project to exercise his skills.

  • NP1972

There must be an App for that!?!?!?

  • Droppin' loads

    Nokia brick…….I am your father!

  • Jay

Shoulda used a better phone….. A for effort tho

  • ozydakid

    A polished turd… Next?

  • thebadwolf79

Why so much hate for this? The first bit of text tells you everything you need to know about it. "A cheap Chinese cell phone becomes a brass and copper work of art." As a work of art, it doesn't need to function beyond just looking nice. I'm not personally all about the steampunk style, sometimes it works, sometimes not. That said however, the artist transformed that phone into something vastly different and it looks interesting. Good job sir.

    • hara

Hell yeah. I make stuff like this (well, toy guns, not quite like this) and I think it's great.

      • Whovian

You got a thumbs up just for your name.

    • Batboy21

thank you. some folks is just ignant. steam punk is hella cool!

  • John

Sorry it's a fail. Not nearly enough moving parts steampunk. It should have been rotary dial and on the back a compass or a sun dial or an anemometer. But otherwise it's a great prototype.

    • Oltimey

Will give you a thumbs up when I see your version up here on the website.

  • NebraskaGuy

#37 Now take it with you on an archaeological dig and bury it – see who shits when they find it! haha!

    • amrith777

      I love this idea!

    • Dydy

      Hahahahahahaha Trolling at it finest

  • Lunch_Box

I just don't get the appeal of steam-punk.

    • DeepestBlue2

      That's because you're a lunch box… ;)
The point of steam punk is it recalls an era where aesthetics were as important as the function. Buildings with all kinds of Victorian trim vs an ugly square box.

    • yoyo

Yea me either, I just dont get it

  • Stevedave

yes but can you scroll the DAR on it??

if so, then it is definitely a work of art!

    • Lydia

      Suck up…

  • SkillinVillain

It's a movie prop… I doubt it was meant to be fully functional (take calls), but still inspirational craftsmanship…
