BTW, if you have a cat, please feed it canned food as recommended by Dr. Pierson at her catinfo.org website.

Recap if you don't have time:

Canned food =

1- 80% water content. MOST IMPORTANT element, to avoid your cat painful and very expensive urinary infections, dry food has a paltry 10% EVEN if it drinks from its fountain or water bowl. Mine very rarely drink. Cats DON'T have a thirst mechanism like us or other animals, therefore must get their water from their food.

2- Animal protein. Cats are carnivorous animals and NEED that stuff, not plant protein in most dry food. Even by-products are okay since they from animals.

3- Low carbs. Cats again don't need that.

Thank you Bob! A few of my family members are vet techs particularly for feline clinics. YOU ARE 100% CORRECT. Dry food has no business being a part of a cats diet. <=( Sad but true. Our male cat had to have his penis removed and had to have 9 surgeries and a post op catheter for 4 months because of dry food. The vet said that they need moisture in their diet to keep from forming a "biological crystal plug" in their urinate system and our male cat had been on only dry food. Sometimes it takes years for them to suffer from dry food but it very typically happens. They simply do not consume enough water to make up for it. It makes cats MUCH more prone to urinary tract infections. Big cats in nature eat "wet food"; dead animals with blood and water content. It's simply against nature to feed cats dry food. Thanks for sharing. It can help a lot of pet owners have a happier healthier kitty!

Sad for your cat!

I fed my buddy 12 years of that bs dry food, because it was economical and practical. Man, no one told me of the dangers of dry food., not even the vets at my local clinic. Oh I know, because they sell the damn dried kibbles themselves, probably hoping to cash on expensive surgeries! $ > integrity, boo (-urns)!

Weren't for Dr Pierson's catinfo.org, maybe he would've gone through your cat's terrible ordeal.

Since July 2012, I put in practice what she says, put the dry food away and I don't even take chance with the canned food alone, I entirely fill his food bowl with water so he eats it everything like a Chunky soup, that way he gets hydrated like a champ (bigger pee clumps in his litter box)!
