The second brush is completely useless, he barely uses it. I'm guessing purely theatrical

At no point in the video does he use the second brush to replenish the paint for the first.
He does use the second brush here and there to make small insignificant strokes with could all have been done with the first brush. If he was using the brush to "hold paint" a palatte makes much more sense
