On May 31st Luke McGuire, a sniper team leader, stepped on an IED while on patrol in Afghanistan. He lost his legs above the knee, broke his pelvis, hands, and damaged his eye sockets. I spoke with his wife Kait (right) last week:
John, for the first few weeks my husband has done nothing but fight. Every day in physical therapy he surprises us all. He never says ‘I can’t or ‘I quit’ and is constantly pushing himself to do more reps or push harder. I am so proud of him and I know when our 6 month old son gets older he will be just as proud.
We’re at Walter Reid, the same place as Taylor Morris. There are so many Chivers here it is unreal! Luke keeps a Chive poster above his bed and everyone stops by to comment on it. The amputee community here is pretty phenomenal, plus the Chivers – that’s his nurse on the left. She wears Military KCCO’s. …the support and love is overwhelming! It would REALLY make his day if he made the DAR with a link to our Facebook support page. He loves connecting with Chivers. Thanks so much!
Thanks for your service and sacrifice, Luke. Check your mail in a few days, we’re putting together something special for you, buddy.
